BMWs and their drivers.

Classic joke: "Whats the difference between a BMW and a porcupine? Answer: On a porcupine, the pricks are on the outside."

Here in yuppieland, I see lots of beemers. It has been my casual observation that the owners and operators of these little "driving machines" are everything that the joke implies, and more. I was coming out of my local grocery store earlier today and was nearly flattened by some miserable twit in a beemer backing out of a parking space. It was raining fairly heavily and I was making some haste to get to my car so-as not to get my child and I completely drenched. This women was coming out, no matter who was in the way, a classic "me first" component of beemer ownership.

I read an article the other day on Yahoo, about how the type of car you drives determines now happy you will be in retirement. Typical internet drivel about how prudent you need to be when your sources of income dry-up (I was killing time at work, what can I say?).  It seems that BMW owners are fairly miserable in retirement, as a large part of their identity is to drive a car that says "look at me? Ain't I such a wonderful success story?". Evidently, the cost of that message causes them considerable financial anxiety in their golden years. Just desserts in my mind.  A pox on them all.

Probably applies to a lot of status symbols, makes sense I suppose.

The woman simply may not have seen you in the rain.   But I agree, the "me first" mentality is something encountered on the road every day.

lloyd3

Perhaps. It might also explain lots of beemer owner activity; they simply can't see very well.

Around here. Beemer drivers are the worst of the worst drivers as Houston has been designated No. 1 as having the most discourteous drivers in the nation! I always give the Beemers a little extra look to determine or guess (more likely) what in the world they are going to do next! It usually involves something aggressive and stupid just to gain 1 car length in traffic!  I LOVE going past them and smiling when traffic leaves them in the wrong lane!

Try being a little aggressive or at least keeping up with traffic and being a silver-haired old man driving a Lexus! Everyone thinks they must be faster than that "old fart" driving a Lexus!  People are constantly trying to get ahead of me just to take the next turn 100 ft. ahead!  I surprise a lot of drivers with my acceleration leaving them in the dust and them having to "settle" for getting behind me where they should have been anyway!

I, actually, drive wayyyy more conservative in my Hemicharger!  Ha!

Charge69:  FWIW, that Yahoo article suggested Lexus as a better car to own in retirement for a number of reasons, the biggest one being that they age more gracefully and better hold their value. My personal experience with Lexus largely confirms that assessment.                                  :               ;

There are likely people who say the same about us.

I think VW drivers are worse than any other brand of car driver, because VW drivers want to be part of the snobby BMW crowd but couldn't afford it.  So, they drive around with the entitled mentality but they're angry to boot because they're just posers anyway...

Ghoste

Should you add Audi in there too?

Aero426

Don't forget Porsche drivers too!   :o

Something to that  :scratchchin:.  A high opinion of their own sophistication, yet, no dough.  Yes,,, I've seen it.

Audi and Porsche drivers have never rubbed me.  To me  Audi drivers tend to be successful but low key. (Good bet they share the low opinion of BMW drivers.)

How about lesbians in Nissan Pathfinders? What's up with that?

I dunno about the rest of the country, but in California, especially San Diego, image is everything and you can tell VW drivers want SO bad to be part of the 'Euro elite, and they drive like they are, and they act like they're better than everyone else.  Consensus out here agrees that VW drivers and perhaps their owners are just the worst.  You can experience similar idiocy from the "tuner" crowd, which leads me to believe that we only get the stupid behaviors from the wanna-be's like the VW guys, people who are trying to prove something.  I don't really have any more issues with BMW, 'Merc, Audi or any other brand of driver for that matter...

:Twocents:  Hey my neighbor gave my son his granddaughter's old bmw (1981 518) and my son is now putting it together.  He better not drive that way...  Also, was merging onto the highway the other day and a lexus driver decided to try to accelerate up and push me onto the shoulder, luckily he couldn't keep up with the Charger  :yesnod: so I think he was probably cursing me all the way once I settled into the lane, at least until he took off and passed the next car.    I think it is an equal opportunity thing, but I agree that some new BMW drivers are  :yesnod: much.

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Here is Chi-town, a local radio host just had a few hours on how BMW drivers are A' holes.  I was laughing my butt off because for the most part, it's true.   I had a road trip today and there were two that were driving in and out of traffic like they were the most important person on the road.
My name is Mike and I'm a Moparholic!

There is a Chiropractor here in my town and the guy is in his late 40's he has a BMW M3 and this guy drives it like a bat outta hell non stop, lives right down the road from our car lot and you can hear him downshift and damn near sit it sideways turning onto the highway. I had to tow him a few years back and wow was he full of it he told me he was in Kansas trying to get to his family (some medical emergency) said he was doing 150 mph on the highway and he said he had 4 cops and a police chopper tailing him, he tells me after he pulls over and he screams at them that some family member is dying and he's trying to get there before they die they let him go..... What a douche.. :slap:
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

1973rallye

Wow what timing for this thread, I was on the way to home depot tonight in my silver rallye. On a four lane residential  two way divided road with a median  I was travelling  fourth in a group of cars in the median lane. Mr. BMW is impatiently trying to pull out from a roadway parking spot. As we all pass I see the knob pedal it and come up fast behind me. He blasts by in the curb lane about 20 over the limit through a school zone and cuts off the lead car, avoiding the use of signals on this and three more aggressive moves. On the second last time he blasts past a packed outdoor patio of a popular restaurant before getting caught up in traffic as the third car in a line up waiting to turn at a red light. I just happen to end up making the turn behind him and sadly he ends up boxed in behind a military police cruiser with a jeep to its left.
I pulled up beside him and over the rumble of my exhaust I informed him that he was speeding in a 50 zone and driving like an idiot. He keeps pace with me and starts the big man routine followed up with a "*uck you"
It was at this point I felt it would be appropriate to produce my badge, he glanced over and I commented  "no, I believe the expression is *uck you.
I haven't decided whether I am going to pay him a visit with a voluntary donation slip payable to the provincial treasurer or not when I get back on shift next Wednesday.
There's my rant, hope I didn't bore you all.

Do it!

:iagree:  The Milwaukee WI Sheriff did just this a year or so back.

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- A case of road rage got one woman into trouble in Milwaukee County.

Cheryl Smith, 49, was in a hurry to get to work Wednesday, and she could not get around an SUV on an interstate on-ramp.

Once on the freeway, she sped past the SUV and gave the driver the middle finger.

That driver turned out to be the Milwaukee County Sheriff.

"He pulled his vehicle in front of me and got out," Smith said. "That is when I was like, 'Holy ****, I flipped off the police.'"

"I even uttered to myself, 'Is she giving me the finger?'" said Sheriff David Clarke. "I mean, she held it up that long that I could make sure."

Smith was arrested for driving with a suspended license and ticketed for reckless driving.

She said she plans to fight the ticket.

Clarke said it should be a lesson that everyone needs to share the road.

She plans to fight it??!!  On what grounds?

So she could plea the charges down.   She pleaded guilty to reckless driving.   Charges of operating while license suspended and operating without insurance were dropped.

She paid the $393 fine plus court costs.
