mopar m1 intake

is the mopar m1 intake any good for a bone stock 440?

this is a single plane intake, the motor is bone stock other than a upgraded ignition

I hope down the road to re-do the motor, with boring the cylinders, mopar cam (mild) maybe some slight headwork.....

could I throw this on and get good results now, and later in a couple years when I redo the motor?

id hate to waste 150 if it will work now, but not later or work later but not now

what is everyones thoughts? worth 150 or no?

Thats the M1 single plane.  Personally I think you would find it a step back on a stock 440 and depending on what you define as a mild rebuild perhaps even on that.

What ghoste said on stock build step back on mild I.e cam, heads, headers, exhaust  u will see a nice beefit in higher rpm ranges.

down the road, im hoping for a somewhat mild build

nothing over the top, really want a reliable motor, something I can cruise in with good driving characteristics, but has enough power to make sure everyone knows its a 440

im planning on now doing a .30 overbore, adding a mopar purple cam (nothing extreme, but with good idle-4000 rpm power) probably do some sort of head work...new intake manifold, maybe headers....

again, something very streetable, id love to see 425 hp at the wheels, any more would be great, but not needed......reliability and low end grunt is what im shooting for....I can imagine going over 5k rpms for more than a couple seconds.....

I guess I will price it out, see what I come up with......it might be cheaper to go with a stroker kit maybe  :shruggy:.....but who knows...its a long ways down the road

Here is a rebuilt 1972 440 7.5:1 compression, running a stock type replacement HP cam 214/224, .444"/.466, stock 1972 iron intake and a 750 cfm Edelbrock Performer carb. We made a dyno pull with that set up and made one change, we switched to a M1 single plane.

very good info....but...without getting too carried away I will ask this.

That being a m1 single plane intake made good power above 3200 rpms...that's awesome....but when I do my motor, I want to gain power from idle to 5000 or less

is there a intake that will give me a hefty boost from the stop light? help get that big B body mopar moving? im thinking a dual plane intake is where I want to be.

I'd still hold off and run the stock intake until you know what you want from the car and then build the whole thing as a combination.  Buying parts here and there before you get to the rebuild without knowing yet for sure what your goals are is a short cut to disappointment in my opinion.  Everything needs to be matched.

The best intake from stoplight to 3200 rpm is the stock iron intake, if you are just crusin' around the neighborhood, its the best. There is no magic intake,everything is a compromise in one area or another. I've used the single plane M1 to 620 HP on a street 451 and it is a good all around intake. An Edelbrock Victor will cruise the neighborhood streets and not complain. In your case I would build my new engine under the stock iron intake.
