James Hylton's charger 500, photographer unknown. the photo pre-dates an ominous event in the car's future at the same race track.

this is the car which later became the daytona that hylton would sell to talmadge prince.

The Charger carries the stock car glory from back then but we forget how much the Coronet marched into battle for Dodge as well.  Any more of those?

I have a few Daytona pics but I will have to root around for them. I also have more non aero Chargers but I wasn't sure I should post them on this page. Maybe I will post them on the Charger Discussions and then link the thread here.http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,112138.0.html

Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Ghoste

Imagine them letting you climb on the car for a picture like that today.

JB400

It would have been great to see these cars race in person, let alone get your pix taken with them.  I guess I can dream

I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

Richard's winning car, loaded up after Wilkesboro, 4/18/70.    Look how the fender decals and NASCAR door decal have been peeled off the car.

This car would meet its demise three weeks later at Darlington.

Just imagine all of the pictures sitting in boxes and at the bottom of drawers long forgotten. I am sure there is tons of gold sitting out there in private hands.

That is the truth.

It is great to get to the stuff before someone passes away and it gets thrown out.

Here is proof that I was one of the culprit souvenir hunters pealing decals off cars. This is a picture of half of the windshield out of Jabe Thomas's 69 Road Runner with lots of contingency stickers on it and some white letters and numbers off of a Petty Superbird.     No I don't still have it. It went into the trash 40 years ago :-\

What is cool is that the internet has made it possible to link up a small group of like minded people to share what would otherwise be just obscure memories.

Agreed!  The IR POWER TOOLS sticker is gold - took me some time to find it NOS.

It's weird seeing candid pics of Bobby Issac.  He is well known in Mopar circles but he's more of a name on a car than a face.  He disappeared off the racing scene and died so young.

An angle you rarely see.   Note how the hood is raised up ever so slightly at the cowl.

held1823

are you saying the petty body man was a little slack with the hood alignment?

surely they weren't taking advantage of the fresh air that might accumulate in that area...

I can think of another Superbird with a red hood that has a similar panel alignment "problem".

The engine air intake is taken at the cowl and is a sealed system.    Raising the rear of the hood could help exhaust air trapped from the underside.

Base of the windshield is a high pressure area.
Besides, you have a pair of Exhausters over the tires to relieve pressure in the engine compartment, and lower drag!

Get your yarn tufts out, some masking tape and clear the local freeway!!   :2thumbs:
I'll be looking forward to the results from your experiment on Youtube!

I think maybe Aero426 was being slightly facetious, slightly.  ;)

BROCK

I agree that the air would not vent out at the rear of the hood - but what about the heat?!
