I'd like to know if anyone who has a 70 Charger can tell me where the tach wire comes thru the firewall at. I've searched the archives here and this question was brought up ponce before with no real answer. Plenty of pics showing the 68-9 location between the bulkhead connector and the booster but I believe this is different for a 70 model. This car is a factory tach car but I just can't seem to locate the place the wire comes thru. As of right now a previous shop has it coming thru where the speedo cable is supposed to go. Also i just picked a good air cleaner assembly for this car and would like to know what the original paint was on this. I pretty sure it black but was it wrinkle finished or just semi gloss black? Thanks for any help!!

OK I rechecked the firewall on this car again and there is no hole between the booster and the junction block. This has me greatly baffelled since the guy that owns this car has had it since 1974 and it has always had the factory tach. I also checked all the original wiring and it is identical to the new harness. So where the heck is it supposed to go thru the firewall?  :shruggy:

Did you read the thread at the 70 Charger Registry message board that I posted above? Number of ways to route tach wires for non-factory and your car may not be a factory tach car.....thus no hole....look for the dimple and drill a new one.

Yes i read the article but what i don't understand is that the old harness has the big grommet its always been a tic tock tach but theres no extra hole. Just wierd to me.

Does your fender tag have option code N85 on it? If no then the car did not come with the Tic Toc Tach and anything you are looking at is patchwork.

Thanks for the replys Don I just pulled out the fender tag and looked at it there is no N85 code anywhere on the tag. Guess he either installed it or the previous owner did. Would make sense that it had the correct wiring tho the guy that owns the car his parents used to have a Dodge dealership in the Rochester NY area back in the day so he could have easily gotten the correct parts.

The dealer may have added it. That was not uncommon. If a customer liked a car on the lot, but it took a certain option to close the deal, the dealer would often add it. I have seen dealer added vinyl tops, AC, and rear window defoggers. A tach is not out of the realm of possibility.
