I have finally got most of the bugs worked out on my 400.  bad distributor was causing most of the problems.  I believe i'm still running a touch rich because i can barely see the exhaust coming from the tail pipes and it stinks, but the motor is still breaking in.  one thing has me a little stumped.  if i come to a sudden stop, the engine stalls.  it only does it when i accelerate and then have to come to a sudden stop.  normal driving, stopping, no issues.  any thoughts?

Float levels-if they're too low the 'carb won't be able to feed itself during maneuvers that slosh the fuel around in the bowls.  Too high and you can get fuel spillage-it's gotta be the right amount.  What 'carb are you running?

Sounds like its really fat. Start with float levels adjusted just til the fuel wants to trickle out of the sight bowls. Then adjust the idle circuit.what all is done to the engine?
