I'm just about to install the drive shaft, using u-jount girdles instead of straps.  In the instructions, the following sentence confuses me.

When installing, be sure to press the clamp down on bearing cap and check for at least .010" crush at the parting line.

Could someone explain it to me?
Thanks

What they're saying is you want a .010" air gap between the girdle and the yoke surface before tightening the bolts; this ensures that the girdle is "crushing" down on bearing cap. IOW, the bearing cap isn't loose in the girdle.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
