Side A/C Vent Disassembly

I'm retrofitting a set of side A/C vents and I'd like to completely disassemble them for painting. I've removed the on/off flapper, but the directional vanes are held in place with two small press fit pins, top and bottom. It looks like my 1/16" punch will fit to drive them out, but before I find out the destructive method of removing them, does anyone have a better way to it?
