Is Lowjack worth it?

Having had 2 cars stolen and the only one recovered, trashed. (By the cops and storage lot where it was held for evidence.) I'm thinking of Lowjack but how's that work? Do you just install and that's it or is there fees involved?  :scratchchin:

I've got it on mine and they do hit you up for a warranty fee after 2 years. Mine was $250 installed with 2 year warranty and I just paid $99 for another 5 year warranty a few months back. I believe you can keep it without the warranty but they inspected mine to make sure it's still working.

Just make sure your area is covered.

That's pretty reasonable!  :2thumbs:

Where on the car did you install the module?

That's only for people who want their shit back after its been stolen....they can keep it.  My ride can be stripped and parted out as fast as possible so I never have to see it again!  Just give me the insurance check please... :icon_smile_wink:

I'm not telling   :nana:

The box is about a 4" x 3" and just needs a good ground so it can be hidden anywhere. Most installers won't tell you where its being hidden while they are installing it. I was told to leave the garage during the install but I found mine cause it drove me nuts not knowing where it was. The installer told me that too many owners tell people (who are usually in on the robbery) where it is so it gets pulled out before its activated.

I want my shit back! I'm more worried about joyriders. With a real good car thief I know it's gone, never to be seen again. But if it's left in some underground garage or in a ditch by some punks I want it found. Too much work has been done to just start over with a check.

If you check out the Lo-Jack site they have a regular system and one for "classics."  I think the main difference is the classics version is self-powered:

Keep in mind that it isn't cheap; the classics version is about $700...

It's no longer about a check after 19 years......

I did the same thing as you, is it worth it I don't know, I hope never to have to use it.

I found this and it may help others...Lojack Classic for 295.00 sounds pretty good!  :scratchchin: They say extended through 2014.

The classics unit is the one I got. They usually run a special for $250 about twice a year. But $295 is still a great deal.

AAA gives me a discount for Lo-Jack on my 90's muscle cars; Hagerty does NOT for my Charger, though...

Another option that I am trying. It's a GPS tracking device you can buy at Radio Shack for $99.00. There is a monthly monitoring fee of $14.00. If you prepay for a year in advance it's cheaper. As you can see by the pic it is smaller than a Home Depot gift card. It has a battery good for 21 days, or you can hook it up to your car battery. I'm thinking of buying a small battery like the one on my enclosed trailer. You can hide the battery in the trunk and wire up the GPS device without showing any extra wires in the engine compartment. There is a website you log onto to show you the current location. you can set your account up to be notified via email or text if your car moves. There is a 30 day trial period. I just got this thing up and running tonight.

The other nice feature about this device it that it's portable and you can easily move it from one vehicle to another. Another nice feature is that if you think your wife or GF is cheating on you the next time she goes "out with the girls" for the evening you can slip this tracking device in her car and see exactly where she is  :whistling:
