F8-4life

Earlier this year I finally got the chance to buy my dream car. About ten years ago at age 14 I saw this charger in a driveway. I walked over and began talking cars with the owner.
Not for sale he said. I could have stopped at that...well we became friends over the past 10 years.
This year I sold my 69 charger project (some may remember it) and had the opportunity to buy this car.

1968 Charger H code 383-4 sp 1 of 259 ever made, very rare.
On top of that, the color scheme is great!
Originally B5 blue, blue int. with white vinyl top.
I am definitely going to need help from this site in the future.  Here is a picture.

I am young & don't have alot of money so not going to restore.
I plan on just getting it roadworthy, painting it Matt black with aluminum slots, & enjoying.

Cool! I'm south of you. I might even have some usable parts. There was another blue/white 383 4-speed in a yard here about 6-7 years ago. I stopped and chatted to the owner a couple times. It was pretty mangled but it disappeared one day along with a green 68 383 auto. Wish I'd have at least got the info off it.

Very nice find!!  When I got to my duty station after leaving Vietnam, My good friend (also a sergeant) on base had a new hemi-orange slick-body Charger with a 383-4bbl. and a 4 speed. It was a non-a/c Charger with a black interior so, it got kinda hot during the summer We had a great time running all over KC back then.  I only had my 1968 Triumph Bonneville (stupid move on my part) and he let me borrow the Charger a lot!

When he left to go back to Vietnam for the third time, he bought a new 1969 Charger R/T that was B5 with a white vinyl top and white interior and a/c. This one had a 727 auto but was scary fast accelerating from a stop! Within a month,  he drove it back home to San Antonio to stay at his parents home while he was gone!  Lost track of him and the Charger!

Back on track:  The 383 4spd was a great car and you will love it!

Congratulations! You can shoot it with Black Rust Encapsulator from Eastwood. It holds up well as a topcoat (UV rated.) yet is a very good primer that sprays/sands well, check it out. I've tested the stuff for several years on my 70 and my Cherokee.

Congratulations!  You may check that paint code.  I may be mistaken but I don't believe B5 was offered until 69.  QQ1 was real close and offered in 68.  Either way both great colors and a fantastic find.

Great plan and great car. Spend your money on getting all the mechanicals up to snuff, then worry about the cosmetics. Drive it and restore just a piece of the car at a time. Eventually you will get there. Scott.

Thanks for the comments & encouragement everyone. I do need it, this car needs some work for sure.
I looked at the tag & you guys are right, it's QQ1.
A little update, I took the seats out and am processing the floors with a good old wire brush/sandpaper.
The floors are rusty but I want to throw some paint on them to at least preserve whats left.
Here's a pic of the 4 sp hump & floors.

It's pretty hacked up.

Wow that is kinda hacked up.  Is that a hurst shifter?  My Inland has a different connection plate.

Nice Charger
Mine is an auto but like yours its a 383 H code from the factory. I'm also going with the Matte Black look. Below is a random internet pic that I saved for inspiration of what I want my car to look like.  And like yours its not an R/T so no harm done on any mods.

Again nice score and like you said if you don't have the money to restore it for now then just go out there and drive it and have fun.  :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

A little update on the car-
Nothing too exciting, the car has been sitting more then I would like but I've slowly been making some improvements.
I've been gathering some parts for it. Found a original 4 sp hump at the nats this year.
Also found a sweet set of 15x8.5 mopar pattern GL/vector looking wheels.
I have a console setup ready for it.
Recently I found a set of aluminum slots locally at a great price.
Fronts-15x7,Rears-15x8.5. Wrapped in new micky thompson tires with less then 100 miles on them.
The rear tires are big et street/slick radials which are pretty cool and give the car a great look.
Some updated pics.

LOVE the slots. I got a hold of some rim acid from the kenworth dealer and sprayed it twice on mine. tires off of course. smooth as glass and shines like chrome. a lot of truck dealers will do it for you.

Yea the slots need some cleaning/polishing done. They should clean up good.
I just love the look of them, definitely one of my favorite mopar wheels.

Nothing spruces up a car better than a nice set of wheels and tires. I hope you don't have to do to much winter driving in those Mickys!
