I am looking at upgrading my radiator with a griffin aluminum one and cant decide on the Direct Fit (crossflow) and Exact Fit (downflow).  I am wondering who on here has experience with either one of these radiators and what would work best with cooling and mounting... hoping that they both are close to drop in and bolt up units.

Exact Fit.

As the name states, that's what it is.  :yesnod:
I think the only "mod" I needed to do was just file the edge of the mounting flange 1/16" or so to clear between the frame rails. There was just a little smidge of extra material on the flange.
It's designed to be a drop-in replacement for stock, of course with much improved cooling capacity. Hose connections, trans cooler line fittings, mounting holes, etc are all in factory locations. You can drill/tap holes in the flange to mount a stock shroud also. I mounted an electric fan to it this way.

I have no clue about the Direct Fit models. Have you contacted Griffin about them?

My exact fit was not so exact.  The tranny cooling lines were not spaced/located properly.    The rub was how they blew me off.  Some of the poorest customer service I've experienced in a very long time.  They were quite nice to work with until that point, and then wanted nothing to do with me and would not respond.

Exact fit one for me and it fit great. All the mounting locations were spot on. Only issue I had was the upper hose was about an inch closer to the center. But the hose still fit nicely. Difference could have been cause I ordered that largest core offered.

One odd thing was I ordered one but showed up damaged and it looked stock with the raised portions on the top of the tank. But the replacement was smooth. Customer support said that some are shipped smooth and some look stock. I preferred the smooth look anyway so it worked out for me but if you want the stock looking one better call to make sure that's what they are sending.

This seems like a good place to speak up for griffin.  My application was completely custom and the phone conversation I had was short and to the point of my need.  I felt taken care of.

What I got was what I ordered and it was fast. :2thumbs:

Griffin for me, no problems.  :2thumbs:.

Guys,

I know this thread is a little old, but for those that have a Griffin 22", what shroud did you get to fit it?

the biggest problem I have with the griffin radiator I got for my 383 was the ears are flush with the outside of the radiator instead of inset, thus pushing the radiator away from the core support

My griffin showed up in a mint box. It looked great until a few days later when my fingerprints killed the new shine of the top tank, which allowed me to see it came with a slight dent in it. Wasn't too happy for the money I paid. Also had to do a little grinding on the flange to clear my over flow bottle mount (just filed down the corner). Other than that, it fit in the car perfectly. I'm unable to use my fan stock shroud properly without clearancing it for the top rad hose.

I was out and about one day, before my rad was installed, and figured I should get bolts for my fan shroud. I didn't know what size I needed so I called up griffin. I gave them the part number and asked what size bolt I needed, I was told to use a pop rivet or self tapping screw. I explained that it's already drilled and tapped for bolts but I just didn't know the size or pitch. I got a very annoyed "pop rivets and self tapping screws are the only 2 methods we use." I said thanks, I'll figure it out and grabbed some 1/4" bolts that turned out to be correct.

I don't know much about Griffin but I bought an aluminum rad from Mancini Racing and was very happy with it!  Fit perfect and I included an aluminum shroud which also was perfect!  An exact fit!

This is really frustrating.   I bought a Griffin "Exact Fit" based on good cooling and quality, but apparently I bought a version that isn't "Exact"....

The "stock" shroud for the application is the 68 metal version.   The Griffin came with the sides like a 26" that a plastic shroud attaches to.   I talked to one person at Griffin and the response was "the one you ordered is EXACTLY like the original.  When I said it isn't, they basically said the shroud is wrong then.   So, I figured I talked to to someone maybe new, so I called up a recommended person.   She was semi helpful yesterday in terms of trying to figure out the issue.   I explained the issue, and simply said to give me the information to which shroud you designed the 68 22" radiator with.   When I explained the information again, she said the radiator is EXACTLY the same as a 68 Mopar 22" for my application - IT ISN't.   Sent a few pictures over showing this, and now birds are chirping in the wind.   I'm simply trying to find a shroud now that will fit with minor modification, and nothing is matching up.   WOW......

Here is my issue -

Plenty complaints about Griffin lately. Can you return it for a refund?

Ah...damn. I'd tell you to strip the paint but I'm guessing you scuffed the rad for adherence so that would be a pain and unlikely to fool them into thinking it was untouched.
Well this sucks...

Sorry for the bad luck you are having. A simple way to mount the shroud to that radiator might be as easy as a piece of thin 1" x 1" angle iron, maybe 16 gauge or so? Cut to length, bolt it to the radiator with one side up against the shroud and then drill your holes for the shroud and bolt it on. Not ideal but would be effective and a cheap fix.

For what it's worth, I went with one of these https://wizardcooling.com/dodge/charger/ with the fan shroud and it is great.
