Cowl duct vents

I'm not sure where to post this topic, so please move it if not in the right spot.

I've removed my rusty cowl panel. The picture is looking down inside the passenger side duct that comes out to the plenum from the AC unit. It's about 6 inches wide. Yes, what you see is what critters left behind when the car sat in a field for years.

Anyway, the driver's side has a plastic door/vent that closes the duct just before it exits the car. Should there be a door on the passenger side that I can see looking down the duct? The cowl is off so if I need to fix the issue, now's the time.
