Transmission filter extension

I ordered a TCI +1.5 qt tranny pan from Summit a couple of months ago. Good looking pan but it didn't come with a filter extension. It is advertised as coming with it so I called Summit and they have to get in touch with TCI. All the specs on filter extensions that I can find say use with +2 qt pan. What do you guys think, do I need an extension or not? Anyone ever used this pan- TCI 128010 ?

If the pan is deeper than stock you definitely need an extension.

Update: According to TCI the transmission pan part# 128010 does not need a filter extension.

I just looked it up out of curiosity ,

whats the point of  deep pan adding extre 1.5 qt , if there is no extended pick up    

look here summit  , says no pick up needed

Well in theory if you keep the level reading full on the dipstick your filter will pick up the fluid. The extra 1.5 quarts is more for cooling.

I have wonder about this before? Only problem I could come up with is if the fluid has a foaming effect the pick up would suck air?

fluid needs to be picked up from the bottom of pan....I say it needs a pick-up extension...I can't say I agree with the prices of those pans though....

kinda like adding a deep sump oil pan for the engine and using the stock pick-up tube...

With the deeper pan the fluid can climb up the back of the pan during hard acceleration and expose the case-to-VB seam which has no gasket, so the pump can suck air. Ditto for hard braking.

Keeping the pickup at the bottom of the pan keeps it immersed in fluid during high G's.
