It may be legit but it seems fishy to me.  I hope it is legit.  Did he ever ask for money?  A deposit to hold?  Did his email say anything about when he will be available or other arrangements?

Ha funny enough I never emailed him only text and when I tried to give him a deposit he told me he didn't really know how to use paypal or online banking so he said that he rather just hold it for me and waite

If anything I say this lends to the sellers credibility.

Fair enough.  It sounds like your guy may be legit and it will hopefully work out.

When I see these things on craiglist I google the number, I image search the photos of the car, and I search the address.  It is shocking sometimes what I find, i.e. lots of people selling the same car, the address is an empty lot, other people have posted scam stories with the phone number, etc.  Just FYI.

We are still pulling for you.

Tell the guy you still want to come next weekend
Get him to give you the address where the car is so you know where you are going (might not be the same as in the ad)
If he will not the whole deal might be a little fishy
If you do get it you can snoop around a little on google maps and see if there is anything in that location
Can't hurt
(just hope he is just not waiting for his buddy next door to round up enough cash and just putting you off for a bit  :brickwall:)

The ad is out of Wausau so it is in the NW part of the state where I am at.
Probably 2.5-3.5 hours out of Milwaukee

Sure thing I have been talking to him a bit I told him that the deal was still good and that we can hold off until everything with his family gets worked out (I kinda feel bad for the guy he was ready to sell and very nice and it really seems like something not so good happened). Your right it would be good to do a little snoopin.  :2thumbs:

It's hard to go wrong with a big bock mopar. I'll suggest you dig thru the engine building threads on this forum to see what other guys are doing and how it's been working out.

Get the car first.  Talk later

Ha your right  :2thumbs: just trying to pass the time  :icon_smile_big:

I think I'm going to be a little sneaky and go see it this Wednesday use my free flights and go look at it and hopefully pay for half the car or so and get the title  in my name then go and pick it up after my elk trip to Colorado  :coolgleamA:

I doubt you will be given the title till the car is paid in full (I know I would never let the papers go till I had all the cash)

I agree, and it is a two way street.  He will not give you the title until full payment, and you should not give him any money until title.  Just keep up communications with him and get it all done at once.  You could certainly go look at it (and probably should) beforehand if he is available.  But if he is available, and you do that, just pay him the money and get title and arrange shipping.  Shipping will be about in line with what it will cost you to haul a trailer up there and haul it back anyway.  The reason I would have said go get it yourself as opposed to shipping is so that you could see it first, if you are going to see it anyway, ship it.

I have been looking for a '68 4 speed big block and they are over 20k!If i was you i would have driven up there already!Screw school, one day you would loose. For 10k i would be on it straight away.I'm in Hungary and would pay for that car tomorrow,if it's real!Would take 30 minutes to sort out the money and paperwork!
If you find a deal like that let me know, please!!!
Could of payed someone to take a look at the car for you to be sure it's legit tho.

Wish i could find a car like that for 10k!

familymopar

Well said cavemanno1, the price and the fact that the car is still supposedly there is what made me a little skeptical before, but it seems that Ben is convinced and he knows better than I, as I have obviously not talked with the guy.  And you're right, get on this thing like flies on poop.  Lots of people are seeing this thread, the nice ones of us are waiting for the off chance that Ben says "ahh, not the car for me", and I suspect it would be a mad race.  I dare say there may be viewers of this thread that don't care that Ben found the car or that this thread's purpose is to help him out.  If the car is real, it's a steal, everyone knows it, do what you have to do to make it yours.  I guarantee you there are others trying right now, who may even be willing to pay a little more and have told this guy that.

Wanted to write 'be on it like a fat kid on a bigmac'but i didn't wanna offend!Anyway from all those ads he put up here he knows the prices for the cars and should know that car is one in a million if its legit!Should be more pushy about and firm if he wants it,I know i would!

duckmanreno

I agree with the group. You need to do what is necessary to get the car. The heck with school or a elk hunting trip. And I'm a diehard hunter!

Yep.  If the deal is real my fear would be that Ben is not the only one he is negotiating with at this point.  Maybe that is why Ben is being postponed but still kept on the hook.  Granted that is me being skeptical, but maybe also realistic.

Yea, it's bs or the guy is fishing you along. I hope I am wrong but my experiences say not.

Back when I was looking I was on a 68 RT 4spd car within 14 minutes of it being posted for sale. While I was on the phone with the guy I and another board member were researching his postings on moparts and here. We found the story behind the car and enough info that I told him I wanted it.  So the guy sold the car in maybe 45 minutes. He said I didn't need to send a deposit either, that it was my car. I told him I would send one anyway and did but didn't overnight it because of all the "it's yours" song and dance. He was cool with that even though it wasn't needed. A day later in conversations about when to pick it up he even re stated that I didn't need to send it and that he had actually talked to other members here about it but said it was already sold. A day later he sends an email saying that the deposit had not arrived and that I was stringing him along. Recall he didn't even want it at first. Basically became unresponsive but it remained listed here and moparts as a car for sale for the remainder of the week. Another car bud called and turned out he got an offer of 4k more and the guy was "on a plane tomorrow". So he needed an excuse to blow me off. The plane guy never showed, of course, and I just moved on at that point, thought it was REALLY hard as it was just about everything I wanted in a Charger. I could have still picked up the car as my friend could have said he would buy it and then I would have arrived and he wouldn't have known but whatever. At that point I figured it wasn't meant to be my car and if I forced it I would probably regret some part of the exchange along the way.
