The VIN on a 72 Rallye, will not tell you if it's a Rallye.  You need a build sheet with the proper codes. :Twocents:

Or in most cases.  A photo of the fendertag will do.

Here you guys go for this 70 it looks ok but it does have rust and again the owner wants 15.5 (looks to be a 500 and se model)  :scratchchin:

That looks like some pretty bad rust for 15k. Along with the rust you can see I bet the roof is gone under that vinyl top and those headlight doors are just  :eek2: The 440 also looks to be late 70s which means it will have low compression unless it was rebuilt. Also it may be able to be used as a very rusty driver but it looks like more of a full blown restoration to me. I think the Tacoma 71 and 72 rallye are much better options unless you can get this guy down quite a bit on price.

Yes, sorry. The fender tag will tell you if it's a Rallye too.  Don't forget, some 72 Rallyes came with 318's[/b].

Probably because he's been working on it, or because he's researching what other cars in similar condition are going for.

Most of the cars back then didn't have all the luxuries that are taken for granted today.  With these cars, you're not buying luxury, your buying character and style.

That is for sure I guess back in the day people weren't used to such pampered lives  :P

I don't know a lot about '72s but are those seats right?  Almost seems '75 and up?

I'd ask him for a fendertag and post that up.  That way we can see if it's a genuine rallye.  Need some photos under the hood and/or some trunk area and underneath too.  where is port richey?

70 sublime

Freshly wetted down (can see blue sky) not a good sign
Did not really show any picyures of places they rust (around back wheels)
No picture of driver seat (see the corner of a box in driver seat) they are always going to be the most used and worn

Is it auto or standard ? ( I see a chrome light on dash not sure if it is for back up lights or seay belts)

The pictures that are there look good but what did they not show you ???

Hey Benfro89   I've been wondering if when you finally buy a car how long before you will need to sell it because you found something else that's just a bit better of a deal?
I get that you would prefer a clean driver for less than they are selling for but am at a bit of a loss as to how much work you are willing to put into a good deal that needs work to drive?

I sense your enthusiasm at shopping and it has been a good look for all of us into the current market. Also you seem open to a wide variety of mopars over several years.  Too many choices I see.

I'd say narrow your field of view and pick something under your budget so you have money to work on it and make it like you want.  Also be prepared that soon after you buy something you will come across another that strikes your fancy and you will perhaps become one of those sellers that you have been talking too.

The car looks good from the pictures, but I agree you need more to really assess how good of a car it is. The seats are indeed 4th gen, but they have the same frames as a third gen. I have only seen the dash mounted chrome seat belt warning lights on 73/74s, and I don't think it was offered in 72, but I am not 100% sure on that. I don't know why on earth you would add one so my guess is he stole a dash out of a 73/74, if I am indeed correct about it not being offered, so make sure to check if the vins match. Do you know if it is manual or auto and if it is numbers matching? Distance will obviously affect the overall cost, and I don't know how far this car is from you, but I think the Tacoma 71 looks like a better car.

That is defiantly something to think about  :2thumbs: I know when i find something a even better version will pop up thats just how life is  I have heard both sides to the story
1 says to buy the best car I can afford so that i dont put money into fixing rust and bondo
2 says buy a less expensive car and then build it up the way I want it
I have done MR number 2 with quite a few motorcycles and I got to be honest I just want a car that I dont have to worry about rust and bondo and trying to do the dirty work  :P I jsut want to make it more of a hot rod then make it a solid car first  :icon_smile_big: but maybe I need to rethink my decision

I think that If i did find something like this car http://maine.es.craigslist.org/bar/4582753888.html and just build it my way  :2thumbs:

thanks for the input it has made me think things over

Called about the 72 "rallye" It is a 440 from a dodge van and it has a column automatic  :brickwall: seems a bit much for 15000

Called about this white car it is a stock 318 with a bench seat and a column auto I dont know the owner said he needs the car sold so he is flexible on the price  :shruggy:

First time a chick is curled up asleep on the bench upfront as you are driving her home you'll never go back to buckets. Ever.  :yesnod:
There's nothing wrong with buying a 318 car, it's still a V8, and then swapping in the monster motors later. It lets you build the motor too, an extra level of self accomplishment. I'll remind you the 73/74's are also an extra level of headache above the 67-72s.

Call the guy about the black 69. It's more likely a scam, but guess what? Sometimes a busted car isn't thousands of dollars.

I am guessing you are a younger lad looking for a classic and you like many others would love to land that dream car. The problem remains    that there are far to many  characters out there who know how popular and pricey these cars are. They buy low, spend minimal and ask for the moon, or they buy low, spend nothing and do likewise. From what I am reading  I feel you may be prime to fall victim to one of these. There is no substitution for having someone with knowledge go with you to look at a potential purchase . Be careful!

I called the owner of that car and that is a car that he was selling a week before on Craigslist for 11900. So I should have bought it before if I was going to buy the car. Its a somewhat nice looking car but its just a shady deal and I really just dont like the seller  :2thumbs:

Thank you very much though  :icon_smile_big:

I have been thinking about this car it seems like it would be a very nice looking car and who would know it was a clone

So what's wrong with one?   Lower the back down , different rims and tires, and away you go........
