That 71 looks nice, but sun roof looks after market which would ruin it for me even though it looks nicely done. It also has a 72 hide away set up so I doubt that it was an original hide away car it still could have been an R/T though. The ad also says it is a 4sp auto it has a manual shifter though, so it is probably a typo but I would ask about it. I live right across the bridge from the car and may be able to take a look at it for you if you want.

You know,,,,,,,,, that does not appear to be a perfumed pig.............

So what your saying is that might be a real RT?

No, just meant it wasn't schlocked together.   It appears you may not be disappointed when you see it in person.

Is that '71 originally a small block car, as I cannot see the rubber flap on passenger side that I remember is quite noticeable in my '73? Not that it would necessarily mean much. The engine looks quite basic but not bad at all from the photos..

By the way, have you (OP) ever driven a charger? If not I'd suggest trying to get to test drive a 3rd gen and a 2nd gen, as these are 40+ years old cars after all and could feel quite different from modern vehicles - as you are looking to use it as your daily driver?

I don't know if I'd be sad. That purple one looked like it needed some work for sure. And the pics left alot to the imagination. Rear bumper was out of alignment...who knows what the cause was, front fender dented in, new motor doesn't always mean good things....I'd say oh well! And move on. THE HUNT CONTINUES!

If anything, I'm learning from this thread that third gen prices are soaring. At least people selling them think they are.

They sure seem to be i mean any third gen that looks even decent is around 10k which just doesn't make sense  :shruggy:

This isnt bad but the seller wants 20k for the car and last time it was on ebay it bid up to i think 13 and he now re posted it
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dodge-Charger-Base-/311047858099?vxp=mtr

Does this blue 70 really look like one to get? heres some extra pictures

I would probably offer 10k  :scratchchin:

Man the seats in that 68 are hideous  :flame:
They pop out so much in that dull interior.

also, here's a person who sprays the car down right before taking pics to help with shinning up the paint. lol

Strange, The engine alone as a crate motor is worth the price alone, Maybe ask for more pics and a more detailed description and see what he says  :shruggy:

A little hard to see, but it kinda looks like the plug wires go off to the side of the heads, not through the valve covers  :shruggy:

Ben, I am sure that you are aware, but just in case, many of these CL ads are scams and junk.  I am not saying these you have posted in particular as I have not contacted any of them.  But I have contacted a good number of people concerning chargers for sale on CL.  Many of these cars do not exist, or at least not in the hands of the person posting the ad.  I have even talked to some of them on the phone who have been very willing for me to come take a look at the car they don't have.  They will play it to the last moment.  Just a heads up.

It's a crazy girlfriend thing. One of my buddies is married to a blue 77 Pontiac Ventura, and it shows up on CL every so often cuz his EX posts it with a sob story about raising money to marry his current gf and has a kid doesn't exist et cetera.

Man that would burn.  And I am sure that is sometimes the case.  In my experience much of it is straight up scams though.  The last car I was interested in on CL I was actually talking to 2 different people at the same time, in two different places, about the same car.  I am certain neither of them owned it.

"Must sell today" I would take as a possible warning sign.  As well as a single fuzzy picture.  You want me to be interested in giving you $15k, but it is only worth one photo to you?  That could say a number of things, and none of them are good.

Just be careful.  As you have allowed us to join you on this journey of yours, it seems incumbent upon us to consistently remind you of the pitfalls.  Never send anyone on these CL ads a dime to "hold" a car until you can get there to look.  While ebay is a bit of a dirty place, it is considerably safer.  Buying off CL sight unseen is simply not an option.  That being said, these things, the real ones, may go fast, you need to be ready to travel on short notice.  So far we are just inernet fishing.

And I have said it before and I will say it for at least the third time again, know what you want.  Know what you want.  Know what you want.  And by all means GO DRIVE A CHARGER before investing anything more in this endeavor.  When I read that you had never driven a charger, but had driven a 2500 Chevy truck and they must be similar, I almost spilled my drink.  Find someone close to you, who has a 2nd/3rd gen charger who will let you drive it for an hour.  Seriously, do that now.  So many of these cars you are looking at will take a little to get going, i.e. you can't test drive them.  I would hate to think that you spend all this time looking for the perfect car, spend all your money on it, spend more time, money, and energy getting it together, take it for the maiden voyage, and you hate it.  I absolutely love corvettes, so long as I don't have to drive them.

I am all about a youngster finding their dream car.  And it has been quite fun being involved in the process of finding it.  But after hearing a 16 year old say that he has never driven a charger, but that he has driven a 2500 chevy and they must be similar, I wonder if a 96 mustang is not a good starting point.

I say this with all due respect and in hopes that Ben finds exactly what he wants.  I just wonder what that is...

i say to stay the course. dont buckle, dont talk yourself out of your dream. all i could see when i was 16 was a 2nd gen charger in every dream i had. dad said he would get me a car if i got a job. ok, the year was 1973. school had just let out for the summer. the next day i had a job and went on the hunt........   and my dream car came to me in the form of a 68 charger. i was in love instantly.

ok, do the math.........i will be 58 in september. and every time i climb into that car and drive through town i am in heaven. yep still get that feeling. when i pull into a cruise and people stop to listen to my pipes, and watch my charger drive by, i feel good. my dream is still alive all these years later.

keep the dream. the rewards are worth it.

I understand guys are that I need to ride in the car and experience that before I buy it but I just can't find anyone around that has one that I can drive most of the guys I know that have them have 6 figure cars and I'm not sure I would even want to drive that  :P

I truly believe this is the car for me and I will find one soon it will come up. And when it does I promise I will get the car and be thier as soon as possible to look it over and then buy it.  But until then I guess I just need to keep looking  :icon_smile_big:

The ironic thing is that when I flew out to Baltimore to buy my Charger, I had never driven or sat in one. However, I knew regardless of that I WANTED a 69' R/T. Not a 68', not a 70'.....but 69'. Needless to say, I have been more than impressed in every way about my car since owning it. I think that happens when you coup up 20 years of longing  :drool5:

+1 This is EXACTLY what I did....bought an Acura Legend coupe at 16, then another one at 21....then my current BMW, and then bought the nicest, clean 69' I could find/afford after saving for 10 years. Would not change a thing the way I did it.

The VIN on a 72 Rallye, will not tell you if it's a Rallye.  You need a build sheet with the proper codes. :Twocents:

I got mine when I was 16. Worked on it until it was roadworthy when I was 20. Sold it at 22 to pursue my undergraduate degree that I'll finish in 4 months.

I don't regret it, but I was always broke. You'll be broke too unless you feel like working 70 hours a week (you won't have time to enjoy your car) or you could get a degree (not liberal arts) and have a chance to own and enjoy one.
