And with seemingly minimal effort...   :shruggy:  ...  it could clone the one for sale on moparts which is a very sharp looking car and is listed at 19500.

Yeah sorry guys im kinda set on 68-72 dont mean to be a buzz kill  :2thumbs:

No worries.   Just kinda interesting to see the difference in overall condition between them as your search continues.

I agree that it has been interesting to see all of these ads that people are finding.  It's been a great thread for seeing what's out there.

I still say though, Benfro89, that you need to know what you want.  To me there is a significant difference between 2nd and 3rd gens.  If you are looking for 68-72 then you are not really sure which one you want yet.  This thread has been a great way to hash some of that out.  But I would buy neither until I knew which one I wanted.  If you really want a 2nd gen but it is a money issue, then wait.  If you really want a 3rd gen but keep getting steered towards a 2nd, then go that way.  Getting either, in any condition at any price, that is not the one you are in love with will prove to be a mistake (one many of us have made).  No matter the condition, price, etc. any of them will be a (likely expensive) labor of love.  Make sure that time, energy, and cash goes in to the right car.  Not the "I can afford it today" car but rather the "I will still be in love with it when I stare at it years from now even knowing I am top heavy in it" car.

I know it's been said before, but worth saying again.

You can call me Ben  :2thumbs:I know what you mean if I just kinda look for anything I'll end up spending more money than I should. I have thought a lot about what I would like and I got to be honest with you I feel like I can't decide between the 68-72.  :P you guys know I am very particular  :icon_smile_big: I have just found I like both body looks just about the same (when the 3rd gens are a rally or 71) thank you for your input I promise I take all of you guy's input you really have helped me a lot

By the way guys guess what! I used to work at a paintball park a year or so ago and thier was always this blue big shop you could see from the park so one day I asked what was in it says it turned out that it was full of old muscle cars. Now back then I was still consumed with motorcycles so I never really  looked into it.

For some reason it popped into my mind last night so today after work I headed over thier drove up a real long driveway up to this little house abs this real big shop right when  pulled up i saw a challenger r/t sitting in the shop  :O so long story short I talked to the owner and found out he had 2 challengers a road runner with a 440 six pack and a 70 charger now he wasn't selling any of the cats but the road runner (which was a drag car) so that didn't work out. But I did get some leads and know u have to think about a 70 sitting in this shop about 2 minutes away from my house  :drool5: I'm going to go nuts

Just a little FYI.  3rd Gen rallye's drastically differ from the 73-74's. Only the 72 Rallye is a dead giveaway. The doors, hood, tail lights, decals and grill (if, ordered. hide a ways headlights and wing spoiler).  73-74 Rallye's only got a different hood and different decals.

And as much as I love my '73 and I wouldn't trade it for anything anyone else has on here (not even another '73 in better shape), I'll state that in terms of just plain headache a '73-'74 is king. Nothing from the 67-72 will fit in terms of suspension or non-engine components and the aftermarket parts are severely limited. Even YearOne with their ridiculous prices has no selection for me.

Do you guys think it would be worth going up to the owner of the 70 Charger and trying to buy the car from him? Im not trying to judge or be a a** but jsut by where he lived and how he talked it seems liek he needs the money and thinks that 12-15 grand is a very large chunk of change even for these cars. I talked to his friend about a 71 and he said that around here the going rate for a driving 68-70 is around 10-15  :scratchchin:

Im just wondering if i should go up their and say he i have cash money and i am very interested in your car then go from their  :shruggy:

10k is alot of $$ for him to make in one car sale so you may be able to buy his car if you flash your $$ power.
Just make sure its the car for you before you make a real offer.

Had a '71 Maverick (same car different badge), awesome fun car. Was a 302 conversion from a v6. Traction bars on a beefy Ford 9" and a half-assed slap-shift on the C4. Good times. That Comet has an 8" rear, they were good and strong but had no performance or aftermarket parts, often mistook for an old-school 9" I've had guys wanting to buy the one I had laying in my garage I took out of a Mustang II.

Wanted to say: dude go to that guy and tell him what you got in cash. I dunno how many cars I've had in the space of 6 years (I stopped buying/trading after I got my Charger) and there might've been one or two I got for asking price. Having the cash on site will make a lot of people jump. You'd be surprised the things people will accept with cash if the cash isn't quite enough. I once bought a '80 diesel boxtruck for yardwork and a diamond ring I picked up in an earlier trade.

Sometimes you will bleed for it, but the things you want only happen if you make them. Or, "the universe is a place bursting with energy, anything that can exist will do so the moment the conditions are met".

If he's there tomorrow try to confirm like F8 says then make him an offer he might not refuse. Or try Monday. Just be sure to do it soon.

Huh?   Why is a 72 a dead giveaway?   The 73/74 distinguishes itself with the full side stripe, bulge hood, decals.  Making them a dead giveaway.

The doors differ.  Okay.  So the doors differ.   You get a couple door stripes instead of the full body stripe.   With the 73/74 you even got the option in colors of the stripe.  72, only your black.
Drastically differ?  I'd say no.

With some of the subtle differences such as quarter windows or a change in body lines and better suspension later on.
Also a 71/72 hideaway grill can be added along with a spoiler and air dam to a 73/74 if they ever chose to do it.

I've been watching this thread from the beginning and think it should be a place to send those that ask the most common question.---What's it worth?---

In this thread I think we are finding the answer.  Owners/sellers and buyers set the prices.  The reason buyers have a hard time is sticker shock.  And not many sellers are in a panic to sell.

The up side for the buyer is money doesn't have the value we think it has. A deal made now is a better deal than one made later when money is worth less.
The down side for the seller is money is losing value as we speak and they feel compelled to hold on or raise the price.

A tug of war.---Those that don't buy something they want never get it. ----Those that never sell what they have are just passing the car on in a different way :D

Benfro-- I see your dilemma as too many choices and a fear of making a wrong one.  At this rate you remain without a car. :shruggy:

Don't give up :2thumbs: I'm just watching and adding my :Twocents:

Best thing about that car, is the owner is on here.  You can directly negotiate through PM.  He could always pull the Ebay ad.
