when i was 16 i got my first charger. 68-383 700.00 only had around 70,000 miles. was in great condition. and it was in 1972. :nana:

I had started dragging my buddies to used car lots looking for 69 Chargers when I was 14 and had my first musclecar by 16 (although not a Charger) so I also can recall the enthusiasm Benfro has, but its still sounds funny when a teen talks about their youth like a long lost era. (sorry Benfro, no offense intended) :icon_smile_wink:

my 13 year old grandaughter used the phrase "when i was young" the other day. i said, "you havent even begun to live yet" :smilielol:

Haha.   My 10 and 13 year olds say this all the time.  "When I was a kid..."
Adults before their time it seems.

I took a look at that green one in Boise, as that's where I live.  Didn't even know it was on craigslist, I just have a friend that said it's down the street from where he lives.  He had a sign in the window and didn't post price.  I knew it was out of my price range, so didn't really bother asking.  We just assumed it was more than the 17k he's asking.  Pretty sweet looking ride.  My only issue with those cars, is that it's hard to make it 'your own' when they're already cherried out like that.  It's like buying a brand new Harley and never doing anything to it.

Not seeing the price I would have put that car around 7-8k.

68 Charger!!! Barn find. Drove up from Arizona. Body in good condition. Not a rust bucket!! Doors and trunk lid shut nicely as they should. Quarter panels solid. Best to see for yourself. We all know its rare and worth around $60000 after restore. Car is complete! Has split bench seat, Column auto. This model came with A/C. 318 engine which still runs good

I like the part where they say "We all know its rare and worth around $60000 after restore"  :smilielol:

I did not notice the garden hose any place in the picture so they could wet the car down to make it look that much better

The one has been removed and the other is okay if you can get it around 10k less than asking price

Hope it works out

To be honest, I've lost track of your favorites.  Can you add the links to the 70 and 68?  Why don't you pursue that 72?

I would love the 72 but the owner will only come down to 17 so that's pretty high for me

Hey guys it's gettin pretty close to time to get a car and I've been looking for months and months and I'm ready  :drool5:

Do you guys think that the 70 is a good car to get I keep hearing a lot about it around here
http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/cto/4587382038.html

I think the '72 Rallye that you think is overpriced is 10X the car that this ' 70 is.

I'd be checking out that '72 Rallye in person, before someone else that has been sitting back and watching this thread...

Buys it.  :Twocents:

Have you talked to the owner of the 68 because from the ad it sounds like the engine was pulled so it isn't going to be the driver you are looking for. Also if it was pulled there was probably a problem with or its possible he was going to swap in a bigger engine. It is also very far away from you so it is going to cost you a lot more to get home than one of the Midwest cars you were looking at. I agree the 72 does look nice if you can get it within your budget.

thanks. and I agree about the distance. plus the car being disassembled. these 2nd gen cars will take a bit of work, plus plenty of cash to get back to a driver status. spending more for a car that is at that level could pay off big time in the end. these guys are directing you in the right direction.

Yeah i called the guy about the 68 and he said that he was going to swap the engine and he just took it out and it runs good I would put it back in and drive it for awhile when i first got it if i do get it the interior isn't in to bad shape (im getting this all from the owner) and it is all their just needs a face lift

With the 70 i know it does need more work but it is my favorite year by far that and 68  :icon_smile_big: so im not sure if its worth the 15000 the guy selling it said he would help me out and before i got thier would get the car running and driving he also says he has most all the parts that go on the car

I have talked to the 72 guy in detail and he just wont budge from 17 i would guess that is why it has been on their so long?

I say go with the 68 or 70, or even wait for another 2nd gen... simply because thats what you want, i know people who buy "close enough" cars, just to regret it, and contiune searching for what they first wanted anyway.... im one of those people   ... although i dont regret buying my other cars  :drive:

uhhh well when i was 11 i got a 77 corvette because it was the same colour as the general lee.. looked like something out of a hotwheels collection, and was cheap enough for me to afford it, then when i was 15 i got a 70 olds cutlass than i drove home for 500$ spent another 2500$ getting it street legal and offered to trade it for a rusty 70 R/T charger, then a decent 68 R/T charger  but i kept it, and drove it to highschool, college, multiple jobs, Glad i kept it, cause its crazy reliable. and it's really grown on me, ...but the charger bug was always eating at me, and despite my best efforts to ignore it.. i gave in and started building one, it helped keep my sanity though  :D... maybe

So now that you have looked at 200 different cars you are getting a feeling for what they are worth

Some of the ones that are big $$ prices you have noticed that they have been listed for some time

Meaning they are asking more money than the market is willing to pay

So either you have to luck out and be the one to offer XX amount of cash on the right day that they finally say yes and come down in price and sell it

OR

Keep your eyes open and be the first one there with cash when one for a good price comes along

If you could only gotten some cash to the guy with the red 70 4spd car before before he asked his wife if $12000 was enough  :icon_smile_big:
