If it is turning 5 or 6 grand on the freeway that is an insanely low gearset.  What ratio is it, like a 5:13 or something?
Anyway, cam and gear and power steering pump are all relatively easy fixes.

Ha yeah i know we laughed a long time when we heard that :P this car is a 11 second car
but do you think this is a good project to take and is worth it? for 10 grand

I think he just needs the money thats what it sounds like. It really does seem like a great car i mean i dont think it would be to hard to change the cam and the gearing then it would drive on the road no problem and then i couuld go into power steering and AC

How much do you think a gearing kit and a nice cam would cost?

So what is your over all budget for your dream car ?
It seems to keep changing

You wil have to get any car you are looking at home so you should look at stuff that is close enough for you to go see in person
If you have to spend $1000 to get it home and another $1000 to get it registered in your name (I assume you have taxes on them like we do up here in Canada) and another $1500 to make it driveable
You will be getting closer to $15000 if you are not carefull

Nothing worse than have a dream sit in the driveway and not be able to drive it till you get more $$ to put into it
next project 70 Charger FJ5 green

Hey on that purple car it says its a MAX WEDGE does that mean its a HEMI?

Come on now Benfro----- If you are for real than their are more basics about these cars to learn. (some are hard to miss).

Please ask again ---what is a wedge engine?---

I may be speaking from an earlier time than I thought.  My old motor head from the past --(before I could drive)---knew what a hemi was.  (at the time it was double rocker shaft).

If your question is real than you must be more interested in a car to drive than what drives it.

This may be just another reminder that I come from another time :shruggy:

Edit---I think I am from another time as I have heard that question many times--What is a hemi/wedge-- but your interest in these cars seems such that you would know the differences. I apologise

1972DodgeChargerSE

A max wedge is not a hemi just a normal wedge engine. Also, that is not a 71 front end. The hood is 71, the grille looks 72 but is hard to tell from the pics, and the fenders are 72-74, it is hard to tell but I think they are 73/74. Personally I think this car is way overpriced but part of that is I like a mostly stock look so all those gauges, the seats, etc are things I would have to replace. I would go for one of the ones you posted up that was a runner for around 3k if you can do the work yourself it gives you more options plus you can drive it while you fix it or just drive it as is to spread out cost or  save money if you want. Also, if you do your own paint as well as all the other work you can come out ahead on daily driver restoration if get a good deal on the car(maybe not so much on a charger but I have had it happen with other cars. Lastley, no matter how careful you are or where you park your car will get hit in a high school parking lot.

Your right the thing is my relatives and everyone around me were Pontiac and Chevy guys not Mopar at all so i never learned anything about Mopar or Hemi at all so im still learning and most of my life has been all in to motorcycles.

The Max Wedge series were the group of race engines Chrysler unleashed in the early 60's before the 426 Hemi was introduced.  Well worth researching on your own as its a important part of Mopar history.

It'll come, just be patient.

I really think that purple car is my car I really like the whole package of the car. Their is a way to take the housing off and change the rear end gearing right? :2thumbs:
LOOKING FOR THE ONE :)

JB400

Rear end gears are pretty easy to swap with the right equipment.  Did he mention what rearend is under the car? :popcrn:

Ghoste

If its an 8.75, if it isn't it's a little more work.  My guess based on the rest of the work on the car is that it is.

Ghoste

Widely available from a number of sources.  You can get a complete pig from Randys or Mancinis jsut as two off the top of my head.  Knowing nothing else about the build I'll throw out 3:55 as a good ratio for you. (its a dart on a board)

JB400

You should be able to order a set through Summit.  My recommendation would be 3.55's.

Ghoste

And if they offer them with or without, wherever you order them from be sure to get a Sure Grip.

Benfro89

Ok sure thing so you thing this PLUN CRAZY  :D is a good idea? by the way what brands do you guys like gear wise? thanks
