So I've got your approval so far? Better than the other cars I've looked at?

Dude, if you in fact are serious, other people's "approval" is not what you need....you need advice, and a set of older eyes- which some guys on here have been cool enough to give. This still does not beat actually going in person and seeing for yourself. I was reading about your "wanting to use it as a daily driver"....yet anyone with common sense in the US knows that at ~$3-4 gallon, this is impractical. So you are either A) a young kid with a dream (good) B) some rando from Peru or a foreign country on here for fun (whatever, its the net') or C) just blowing smoke......regardless, research, read, and use discretion when pasting a bunch of craigslist ads (which are often scams/fake/sold/etc.) and asking members on here which one is "good" or "bad"..  :Twocents:

Advise from a grumpy old fart part II :

I've been screwing around with these old cars for three and a half decades.

Ever since they were just "Gas Hogs" that nobody wanted.

I've got a huge hoard of parts for these cars.

Specifically 68-72 Dodge Chargers.

What I don't have, I can buy, or if necessary, I can make it myself.

I know how to do damned near anything needed to keep these cars going.

That said...

There is no way in Hell I would aggravate myself trying to daily drive one of these things.  :Twocents:

It is just not worth it.

For whats its worth i've daily driving a 70 cutlass s from 2009 to october 2013 , had an 350 olds engine, th350 auto and 2.73 gears, even still it sucked on gas, from highschool and back it tool 80$ a week (just 5 miles down the street) and from college and back it took 150$ a week, (stop and go highway driving, 10 mph for 1.5 hours) It never broke down, except once the alternator broke coming home from school, 2 MINUTES WALK FROM AN AUTO PARTS STORE, i went in bought and alternator, rented a socket set and after a jump start from a musclecar fan, i was running again.

if you do plan to daily drive your charger, get something with really tall gears, it'll accelerate like a garbage truck, but you'll be able to afford it, and it'll cruise the highway like a prius, otherwise, it'll just be a weekend cruiser   :Twocents:

When I was a kid in high school thats all I drove was muscle cars for daily transportation. All the cops in town knew me & my cars. Had a 70 Charger as one of my daily Transportation but that was way back in late 1980's & it only had a 318 2bbl. No Ricer for me either. LEON.

P.S. Pic below.

Cool except for the fram oil filters, did a research project in highschool and found that a fram oil filter is almost like not having a filter at all  :brickwall:

Did not read this thread through.
But I will say patience is your best friend in finding the right charger.
Don't pay 10k for a car. Pay 6k & spend 4k making it right.
But pay 6k for a car that is worth 10k if that makes sense.
If you can find a 68-70 even better.
Or if your good at wrenching spend 6k on a good chassis & find a 440 for it with the rest of your funds.

Don't get caught up in the chrome.  Request more pix of areas that matter the most.

if the body is clean and rust free, including the bottom side, thats a great start. plus the conversion for the brakes.could be interesting. see if someone is in the area of the car to check it out. :2thumbs:

The 73 Rallye looks like a good candidate, if the underneath is as clean as the rest of the car.

Yeah doesn't look bad at all I called the guy and we must have talked for almost a hour he just wouldn't stop  but he was a nice guy and hes sending me a running video and a picture of the fender tag

what do you think about those purple 74s?
LOOKING FOR THE ONE :)

JB400

The purple 74 looks decent for the pix provided.  Issue is the front seats.  More than likely they're fiberglass, although they could be aluminum.  If that's the case, it really needs a roll bar behind the seat to better brace it.  Also, the 5 pt safety harnesses are illegal in some areas and they're also poorly mounted.  They'd compress your back in an accident.

This car is more setup for drag racing than a street car. :Twocents:  Wouldn't be bad if that's what you wanted.  Fix the front seat setup first.

Yeah i plan to drag the car my family has been dragging for awhile and my uncle used to be a crew chief in the NHRA so that isnt a issue so both the of purple chargers dont look bad?

Hey guys I can get this car for 10,000 I have seen many pictures of the car and that car seems like a very solid nice car but I have two concerns
1. This car has low gearing for drag racing not terribly low but when you are on the highway you are doing 5-6 grand
2. This cars cam has such a low lope that you cannot use power steering or AC because it idles so low

So guys i need some help can i make this car more of a driver? I made a list for what i wanted out of a charger and this is is I like the plum crazy the 71 front end and the 73 rear I really like the racing seats and gauges and the console shift

What parts would you suggest for a new CAM, Rear End Gearing and a Power Steering Pump

http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/cto/4495739009.html

Thanks guys  :brickwall:

Ghoste

If it is turning 5 or 6 grand on the freeway that is an insanely low gearset.  What ratio is it, like a 5:13 or something?
Anyway, cam and gear and power steering pump are all relatively easy fixes.
