Yeah i called the guy about the 68 and he said that he was going to swap the engine and he just took it out and it runs good I would put it back in and drive it for awhile when i first got it if i do get it the interior isn't in to bad shape (im getting this all from the owner) and it is all their just needs a face lift

With the 70 i know it does need more work but it is my favorite year by far that and 68  :icon_smile_big: so im not sure if its worth the 15000 the guy selling it said he would help me out and before i got thier would get the car running and driving he also says he has most all the parts that go on the car

I have talked to the 72 guy in detail and he just wont budge from 17 i would guess that is why it has been on their so long?

I say go with the 68 or 70, or even wait for another 2nd gen... simply because thats what you want, i know people who buy "close enough" cars, just to regret it, and contiune searching for what they first wanted anyway.... im one of those people   ... although i dont regret buying my other cars  :drive:

Ha i know what you mean  :icon_smile_cool: Ive bought bikes before that were kinda iffy  :icon_smile_tongue: what car did you buy?

uhhh well when i was 11 i got a 77 corvette because it was the same colour as the general lee.. looked like something out of a hotwheels collection, and was cheap enough for me to afford it, then when i was 15 i got a 70 olds cutlass than i drove home for 500$ spent another 2500$ getting it street legal and offered to trade it for a rusty 70 R/T charger, then a decent 68 R/T charger  but i kept it, and drove it to highschool, college, multiple jobs, Glad i kept it, cause its crazy reliable. and it's really grown on me, ...but the charger bug was always eating at me, and despite my best efforts to ignore it.. i gave in and started building one, it helped keep my sanity though  :D... maybe

Wow sounds like you had a great childhood 77 vet must have been a cool car for a 11 year old  :icon_smile_big:

Yeah, but 9 years later i still never even turned the key  :smilielol:

So now that you have looked at 200 different cars you are getting a feeling for what they are worth

Some of the ones that are big $$ prices you have noticed that they have been listed for some time

Meaning they are asking more money than the market is willing to pay

So either you have to luck out and be the one to offer XX amount of cash on the right day that they finally say yes and come down in price and sell it

OR

Keep your eyes open and be the first one there with cash when one for a good price comes along

If you could only gotten some cash to the guy with the red 70 4spd car before before he asked his wife if $12000 was enough  :icon_smile_big:

Ha i would have wet myself if i bought that car for 12000 dang wives if only she wouldn't had been around   :smilielol:

of the 2 the 70 seems better just because of the engine, i dont like matte white cars in ads, they hide ALOT of problems that are more easily seen on any other colour, dents, rusty bubbles, bondo,

Again, if i had the money i would pay for the 70, the front end alone makes it a  better deal than the 68 in my opinion because its harder to find, and generally more expensive.

you talked to him right? is he firm on 15k? or will he negotiate?

Well for a running driving 70, that appears to have a solid (don't kid yourself though EVERY 44+ year old car has rust damage somewhere) body, i cant see 15k being that bad, if you were to restore a junker, you'd have 15k just in replacement body parts

I'm sure other members have chimed in over the 13+ pages on this thread, but-

Welcome to Dodge Charger. I personally have been married to my '73 daily driver dream car since I was 9 for coming up on 5 years and I couldn't be happier. I also welcome you to DC.com, and I'll say the guys on this site are the best (and I mean it) but I'll suggest opening accounts on other forums simply because parts are easier to find across multiple forums.

I'm sure I'm beating a dead horse but I wanted to say from personal experience that there is no excuse to drive a car you don't absolutely love. Despite only being 27, I owned almost everything before I found my car at 22. I've done every mustang, most Camaros, amc hornets, aspen wagons, vans and trucks of every make and engine type. I had a 73 Cougar XR7, a 72 Mach1, 79 T-Bird, 84 Suburban and I can't remember them all. 70 VW Beetle. 86 Dodge Ram. 85 Honda Prelude. 92 Mazda Miata. Everything. Before I get distracted again the point is not one of them made me happy like my 73. Honestly, and this might be TMI, but driving my Charger makes my **** hard. Now I do keep motorcycles, the biker in my genes isn't going anywhere, and I can support owning a second car just fine. Man do I hope you get yours soon just cuz I remember how good it felt taking 5 of my friends on a joyride to Port St Joe Beach the night I found my black 3rd gen Charger. So whatever it is you want get it. It sounds like you like the 70. I'll say the hotwheels I traded my prized 58 Vette hw for was a black 74 (I'm a year off but I don't mind), so I can't help but feel like a 68-70 should be acceptable for the fact the 70 front clip bolts on to the 68-69, but I'll admit I don't know those years well enough to say for sure which year had the different taillights, but that's me and I'm only suggesting it so you might have an easier time tracking one down for a good price.

Dear god I just remembered that 99 KIA I had. The shame was almost fatal >_<

if only it had a engine .....  :P

It needs a ton of wiring, maybe a dash and all the gauges and brakes. The engine compartment is black ? WTF ?

JB400

I'd keep looking.  The grille alone will set you back  a grand minimum.  Putting the rest of the car together, you'd have 20k into it.

Benfro89

Ha sorry I was just making a joke that car is to much for me without a engine and trans no thanks ;)

I talked to the owner of the 70 and he said he would do 14 for me and that he was going to change the price on Craigslist but he was is going to wait a bit so I have some time to think it over. He also got the car running and is sending me more pictures

This is starting to sound pretty good  :scratchchin:
