Evidently you don't know much about the scene of early stock car races in the 1940s.  Back when the US culture was full of young people, more open spaces with fewer laws & police restrictions on gatherings & risk-taking, and lots of relatively cheap cars.  (You know, the world that everyone in the muscle car hobby waxes nostalgic about.  Doesn't that sound kinda like what we see in the Saudi videos now?)  Americans were doing stuff like that all the time back then.  It was just before the handheld video camera & Youtube era so there isn't as much record of it.



Hell, there is still stupid stuff on display in the Import car world, who are much younger & rowdier than the muscle car hobby.  Look up "ghost riding the whip" videos.  The muscle car hobby isn't too smart for any of this, we are just too gray-haired and we have to work too hard to restore the rusty old cars now.

No argument with the 40's stock car racing, but as we all know, professional auto racing throughout the world has evolved quite a bit since then. Unfortunately, horrible limb-flying youtube videos on public roads is about all these folks can muster to be productive in society.

They are bored because they get born rich because of the oil industry. They have too much spare time and money.

They better learn how to work, because when the oilfields dry out the story comes to an end...

Comparable American acitivities = Street drag racing, cross country coast to coast races, ghost riding, every other 20-ish sport bike rider on the street, .....

Born rich?  Some yes, some no.  These days a lot of places in the OPEC region have more middle classes than the old stereotype.


Either way the extreme wealth won't last another few decades.  All the largest Saudi oilfields are in the later stages of depletion.  

(And if you take much pleasure in knowing that, umm . . . let me explain a market principle called "supply & demand".  Gas prices in the USA are still controlled by worldwide oil demand no matter how much or little we produce here.)

The difference being the Saudis aren't supposed to drink alcohol whereas for the redneck it's required.

I can't get past the fact that nobody is wearing shoes (or sandals) - not that that would protect them much if the stunt went awry.

Nothing faked there.  It's do-able with enough practice.  

Some of the really skilled guys can keep a vehicle up like that for miles.  Varying speeds, going around corners in both directions, etc.
