I'm on my way east for parts and stopping by Carlisle. My trans just started engaging very harsh into od, kinda like a flare and engage. I bought some fluid and filter but I don't think that's gonna do much. I brought enough tools to pull and possibly rebuild my trans if needed but was hoping for some input on what engages od or if there's a band I can adjust. Fluid still red and has 10 on it.

You could try to adjust the bands while you have the pan dropped. Front band you can do without dropping pan. But rear, you must drop the pan. I would try that first. My 2006 cummins was doing something similar after I pulled a 18ft car hauler against a nasty head wind. I took it to dealer cause it was under warranty and they adjusted both bands and it shifted good after that. But every once in awhile I have to do it again. Although our trucks are years apart. I'm sure it should be easy to find youtube of how to do it to yours. But I would start there.
Unfortunately dodge wasn't known for good trannys behind the cummins motors, at least around my year model. Not sure if it's same for yours. I'm lucky I have 100 plus thousand on the original one. At least that's what the diesel hot rodders tell me. But I have no mods also so that might help. Anyways, hope this helps.

There are no adjustable components involved in the OD operation.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Is overdrive completely computer controlled? It will engage but almost feels like it drops into neutral for a second between 3rd and od which don't feel good. I can take it to 50-55 in 3rd then let off the throttle and activate od and alow it the fall into od and drives fine with no slipping.

From what you describe Its more than likely your  THROTTLE  POSITION  SENSOR. It sits on top of the injector pump with 3 wires going into it.  Possibility there is crap or corrosion   in the connector but more than likely its in the wiring.   Mine did the same thing a couple of years ago  and I had to lock out the overdrive  Shortly after that it would do the 1-4 shift at any speed.  I am almost sure the OD works on a ground activated situation not power to it.

If you check the  "Diesel Resource Site"  there are descriptions on how to wire it so the OD works on a switch.   As you probably already know the wiring in these trucks is a  PIA at best. good luck!

Well I replaced my trans and flex plate in a gravel lot which basicly sucked. Wife wasent feeling well so did the whole thing solo which really sucked. Pulled the pan to replace it and filter and found the front band friction materiel in the bottom of the pan so guess what. Little to no 2nd gear. Know working with the yard and a few resources to get another or get mine rebuilt.  I must say that at least the wrentham mass police where nice enough to let me replace my trans in the center of town without any hassle.
