I am wondering if anyone has installed a 392 2011+ Hemi in a vintage B-body.  I have seen a couple in Challengers, but have not been able to find an instance in a bigger Charger, or any b-body for that matter.

I am finally seeing the light at the end with my build, which as you may have guessed is a G3 392 Hemi.  I had no intent of being a trailblazer, but perhaps mine is in the first handful of installs, perhaps the first.  Appreciate if anyone has knowledge of a similar build.

Thanks, Darren

There are a few on here who have done that.  Check out work by Rolling Thunder or keepat for starters.

I did a 6.1L myself - as did Autodynamics.

The 6.4L is the same thing  -  bolts in the same and is wired the same....     :2thumbs:

Not exactly the same I am learning, particularly with the active intake runners.  Still wondering if any 6.4 b-bodies out there . . .

I will post a build thread soon.

Good idea, especially if you have had to hot rod your way out of some hurdles.

If you have a 6.4L harness the wiring is all included for the active runners.  If you're using a generic harness simply run an MSD rpm switch and set it to about 4700rpm...   pull a signal off an injector and call it a day.

How much is this costing you guys nowadays? I wanted to do one several years back, but cost was a bit prohibitive for me.

Why put a Fiat engine into your American Muscle car. ?

It is comments like this that make me not enjoy this forum.

Good luck to you in building your car.

Not doing the work myself, but currently have a 67 Charger undergoing restoration and we are planning/hoping to install a 6.4L.  Car is currently almost 100% completely prepared for painting. with the exception of the prep work for the shifter (hope to add a 6 speed manual transmission).  Car was originally a 383 automatic so some cutting is in order..  When I bought the car it had a 78 400 block which wasn't in great working order when I brought it to the shop so we are going restomod route.  Still engine shopping at the moment.

There is also a 69 Charger being restomoded with a 5.7L (not sure why he is only going with 5.7 as he is into the guy for big $$$).  His car is right about at the same stage as mine as they have been progressing at about the same rate.

Pictures at the below link but they don't do much for you given where the cars are.

You have a beautiful car there, the first gens have the best interior hands down.  Best of luck with your build, hope to be motoring on the road with you soon.  Cheers, Darren

The active intake actuator on the back of the intake hits the firewall, so to utilize the firewall needs to be modified - but not sure that it can be due to interference with the wiper motor and linkages.  The cost of pulling the motor, modifying, and re-installing will be about the same as supercharging.  I have elected to build a block off plate and lock the runners in the long position, not sure if I'll miss the top end HP, and with my ported throttle body and headers I think I will be somewhere north of stock power ratings.  I am taking the wait and see approach.  Modern Muscle provided the engine and harness, and per them the stand alone ecu does not control the actuator and on the Challengers they have built it is simply locked in the long position.  Suppose it is the old adage you shop for HP, but buy TQ.

Rolling Thunder - you are absolutely correct with respect to the MSD RPM switch, good call.  The firewall mod is the bigger issue for me.  Thanks for your comment.

Definitely interested in this thread.  I have thought about doing something similar down the road after I get bored of the 383.

Memphis Mopar is currently building a killer 70 with a 392. Needed some firewall modifications to fit.

It's comments and actions like you, that butcher our cars.

Steve P.

I do not agree with Acuda at all. If you own a car and want to change something or everything, it is yours to do so. Some pretty incredible cars have come from other than factory ideas and most really good ideas the factories put to work are coming from the back garage warriors.

We change T-bars for better performance. Springs, shocks, engines, transmissions, rear ends and gears and about anything you can name on a car to make it more of what we want. So no, I don't agree. We go to ALL MOPAR shows and races and see everything from Willy's to Chargers to Matadors with Hemi's. If you are into being a purist I would expect you are still running drum brakes all the way around and can't turn a corner without a ton of push and roll.

On top of all of that, many people drive these cars all over today and why the hell not get big power on a sip of gas??  Every car has room for improvement. Cars of the 60 drove on roads of the 60's with millions LESS cars on those same roads. Improvements to "OUR CARS" is a good thing. How many people do you know that are still running a points ignition?

Did you swap a 392 in your B body yet?
