1968 Dodge Charger R/T with A/C.
The switch assembly came apart as it was removed from the dash.
One part fell out and I don't know if it is part of the switches or came from some place else?
Is this repairable or is the best option to replace it.
Is there a source for this part?

Nacho-RT74

it can be done, as far you don't remove and install wrong ( or mixed ) the baquelite sheets inside the housing

It can be done.  Mine did the same thing, fell apart in my hands.  I put it back together but then later found a new switch on sale for $40 so I bought and installed it.

I see them on EBag all the time but for stupid money.   :o

But someone told me that they got one at Advance Auto or Auto Zone (I forget which). Direct replacement as I recall.
A while ago but worth a check.  They should be able to cross the number.

Dino

I think mine is a replacement as well.  Came from one of the big auto parts stores.  If I still have the box I'll post the number later.

Ok I guess I'm talking about the actual switches/control panel that you directly manipulate; those things are always very pricey; I guess I'll never have heat or air in my car again lol...

As said, dont mix up the order of the plates or the push button frequency wont work anymore.

The plastic tabs are melted from the factory. You can carefully drill small holes at the corners and put small srews in place to put the back plate back on. I once did that

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

forgot.....

In the back plate is a vacuum switch also, pop that open so you can check if the rubber part inside is'nt stuck. apply some light film of grease onto it so it slides as new again.
Since its open, clean all the brass surfaced of the contacts so you are sure it will work flawless.

I guess I threw the box out so I don't know which part number it is.  I forget where I got it, they were around $60 when I was looking so when a sale came along I grabbed it for $40.

Myk if you're talking about the chrome plate and slider buttons, they turn up on ebay from time to time.  There was one on not two weeks ago, the entire unit with the slider buttons, a/c switch and fan switch for $30.  All you'd need is the $15 decals and you're set.

actually I have found once NOT EVERY SWITCH even looking similar from exterior, works exactly the same in all cars... Just a note about that! take in mind that when searching for a supersedes number

I have dissasembled 2 and the metallic tabs for the electrical part of the function switch were slightly  different. One had 1 tab more keeping circuit closed on a certain function ( I can't recall which one )

Hey I just installed mine, don't make me nervous!

It's crazy, I never had all the heater and A/C stuff in the car until now and I really have no clue what, if anything, will work.

$60 then, $72 now seems right.  Maybe one of the others, O'Reiley, Auto Zone, Advance has it a bit cheaper but so it is.

Is it me or is inflation picking up speed?  I guess I should buy any big ticket items now because they will likely get more expensive as time passes anyway.

Thanks Guys
What is that metal plate with the spring tabs, shown in the 2nd picture?  Where does it GO?

I guess there is still options.
Those plates did slip out but with all the stuff in the way, I don't believe they got mixed up.
If mixed-up, is there a way to determine what is correct??
I was concerned not to remove the wires, at the time, without causing major damage.
I will have to do it now, even if I need a replacement.

Nacho-RT74

I think its like a spring tabs plate for the press buttons function, making them keep in place once pressed
