Anyone running 18" wheels on 2nd gen charger?

I looked at the "wheel dilemma" sticky but I couldn't easily find any pics in that thread of 18" wheels on the rear of a 2nd gen charger.  I always thought the 15" wheels were a little too small for my taste when you put a tall tire on them.  I. Would like to see what a 18" wheel would look like with a 28" tire.  Is anyone running anything close to that?  I would like to see 17" or 19" wheels also, but I think I would like to see the 18" most of all.

Here is mine with 18's all the way around. Rear tire is about 27" tall.

Very nice...I like that look a lot!
What are the exact tire sizes front and back, and back spacing?
Also, do you have any pics from the back on an angle looking toward the front so that I can see the space between the fender and the tire?

I'm running 18's as well: 18x8" wheels with 245/50-18 tires all around.  I thought about staggering the wheels but they don't have my wheel in any width other than 8".  Backspacing is 4.5" in front, 5" in back.  Overall wheel and tire height is about 26.5" which, ironically, is the same size or smaller than cars with stock wheels and tires.  I really wish I could've run a wider rear tire, but oh well; even the hottest Playboy Playmate has a flaw somewhere.

Myk...i just ran your tire size in a tire size converter and its coming back at 27.6 inches. I've always liked the look of your car and i keep coming back to it to help decide what i want to get for mine.

Oh oops you're right, lol.  It's been awhile since I've crunched those numbers.  In any case, that's still not much larger than stock overall diameter; it's the smaller sidewall that plays a difference.  

As for making a choice, don't let it bother you; it took me 20 years to decide what wheel to run, and I'm STILL not sure if this is where I want to be.  I will say that American Racing's Torq-Thrust, D, M, II or whatever version of the Torq-Thrust you see looks good on just about anything.  Even if you buy one of those wheels and then ultimately decide it's not for you, the car will still look, handle and ride great while you re-visit your options.  You CANNOT go wrong with a Torq-Thrust..

I like all three of the cars shown so far for different reasons, but I like chrome, or at least mostly chrome, so the white Charger looks great from that perspective.  I like Myk's look on the front, but I would like it better if the rear had just enough side clearance to not rub the wheel well.  The road racing Charger looks like it tucked in nicely in the rear while still providing enough clearance to run a road course.  I would still like to see the white Charger from a couple of more angles.

I guess the purists think it is heresy to go with anything but stock wheels, but there was a reason that so many of us put Cragars and fat tires on these cars even when they were brand new.  They looked better that way to many of us both then and now.
I put 15" Cragars on my Charger in 1974, and I would have put 18" Cragars on it then if they had been available.

My wheels are 18x8 up front with 4.75" backspace with a 245/40 tire. Out back is 18x10 with 5.5" backspace and a 285/40 tire.

I think I like the stance of V21hemicharger's road race car, but I think it would be interesting to split the difference between his   295/45/18 tires in back and the "White and red 69 " 285/40/18 tires. 
Any of these might be interesting to see.

Well, I like to chase more modern cars in turns and corners and that's not going to happen with stock wheels, tires and suspension.  Also, a car with a giant, curvaceous body like a Charger needs bigger shoes; the stock stuff looks silly under there-just my opinion.  In the end, to each their own...

I also run 18s. 18x9 up front and 18x10 out back. Tires are 275-40 front and 295-45 rear. Nitto 555 tires. Not sure what I'll do at replacement time. The 295 rear is no longer available. I probably should step up to a 305 or 315 rear tire anyway.

I decided to stagger mine. I run a 18x8 up front with a 245/40/18, the rears are 19x10 with a 295/35/19. No rub issues, and IMHO the tires are a decent size without too much of a "rubber band" look.
With wheels, although many 5-spoke varieties look really good I just wanted something different.

Sure. Let me know if these work for you. If not I have more from other angles.
I felt a 19" fit the rear opening nicely, anything larger just looked too big for my taste and reduced the tire sidewall more. Some guys on here do have 20" wheels so maybe they'll chime in if you're considering wheels of that size also.

Just out of interest, recently we changed the 15 x 8 & 15 x 10 Magnums off my mates Daytona to his Ali 16 x 8 Aero wheels. ( I also have the same size Magnums on my car )
The difference in weight between the sets was huge, which must also mean less rolling mass weight and power to turn it too, it would've made a difference on my dyno result if I'd changed mine out before the pull.

However, how do the modern 18 and 19's stack up for weight reduction or gain  against the 15 & 16's??
Anybody got any specs? Just interested

Bob, I'm not sure what the weight savings would be but when I go shopping for wheels I think I will put that on my list of questions to ask.
Myk, first of all...nice pic you posted. It makes me realize Chargers aren't the only pretty faces out there.  I agree with what you said.  I think there is a place for everyone from the museums where the cars are 100% bone stock and never see the road to the highly modified touring cars and those like mine which are mostly stock with my own small changes like wheels and a modern stereo.  For me I get a thrill from driving it more than looking at it, and I love all of the thumbs up and woo hoo's I get and the people's stories about when they had a charger and how they wish they still had it.  That is what trips my trigger!

It was different at one time. You can blame some of the numbnuts who decided to upload the exact same picture to every post instead of properly creating a signature. Our bandwidth and drive space shot through the roof! I'm working on a long term solution that won't cost me an arm and a leg.
