Hood Hole Repair

Might be going to look at a 70, it has a fake blower fitted as it's been made to look like the Fast And Furious Charger, I would like it changed back to stock, obviously there is a hole that has been cut out of the hood, is this something a bodyshop could possibly repair ? Weld in a new piece etc ? I'm in England so I would rather repair it than buy another hood as shipping won't be cheap to get a hood from the US to England, does anyone make new hoods yet or would it be a case of finding a 2nd hand one ? Thanks for any help

I actually think there are a few manufacturers who make steel repop hoods.  And I know there are a few more that make them in glass.  AMD makes them for sure:

With a big hole like for a fake blower I am sure it could be fixed by a good body/fab guy but I doubt it would be worth it.

Nobody is currently producing a steel 70 Charger hood. :Twocents:

I dont know how big the hole is, but maybe stick a hoodscoop on it?

if not maybe  you can buy a section of a used 68 or 69 hood and graft it in?  :shruggy:

Why not just pop rivet in a big, random chunk of metal off of a Buick ?  :slap:

And since it has to go to England...
I think your best bet is to try and find a good 2nd hand one.  The shipping won't be cheap but if you were open to repro one and this is all thats available then its what you gotta do.

Making that hood whole again would be a challenge for most skilled at body work.
If only the outer skin was cut than it might be worth a shot if you have a good friend that likes a challenge.

The best bet is to find another hood that has issues and combine the two.

The real bottom line is you need a hood cause what you have is not much to start with.

I recall watching a documentary years ago about the cars in cuba and the need for parts to keep the cars going. They had to make their own stuff.  They showed in close detail a late 50s chev door that was fabricated from sheet metal by hand and the quality was amazing.  A work of art made because they could not buy what they needed :shruggy:

You have better choices

I misread and/or subconsciously imposed my own needs on the OP.  I thought it was for a 68, hence the link I posted.  I think that to have your hood repaired by most body guys would require a donor hood, and if you find a donor hood you may not have to fix your hood.  Fabbing the piece from scratch I don't think would be worth it.  A used oem hood is bound to pop up, just have to keep a good eye out.

I agree the hood scoop is your cheapest option.

Not a big fan of hood scoops but in this situation I could live with it. Find a scoop that sits nice and low wont stand out too much it will look OK.

Another option would be to turn it into a shaker, Challenger and barracudas had these. they look real good.

If you are adamant about welding the hole speak to an experienced professional. Have seen it done before the results were not good.

Thanks for the replies, I don't actually mind the scoop like the Blade car has, which place sells on similar to that ? Thanks

I think that's a hemi scoop , look at my thread, shows photos,
The hood not that difficult to do, you need a good sheet metal guy, who can also weld,
The hardest part is the frame work cut away under earth hood,
But you have a lot of common models that used similar frame work coronet, road runner etc,
Post photos of your car , we love pictures on here

There's only 3 options in my opinion... but you'll have to bite the bullet and pay shipping costs.

#1 - Buy a nice clean used hood.
#2 - Buy a brand new reproduction hood (AMD if available)
#3 - Buy a NOS hood (if available)

Hood patches never work out from what I've seen. :eek2:
