Has anyone installed a 73 fuel tank in there 74?

chargd72

I think 73 and 74 tanks are the same.  The difference in 3rd gen gas tanks splits somewhere in the 72 1/2 area.

Butting in out of being curious, but what are the differences?

Once again I'm going from my brain but it has let me down before, but I think it's just the vent and return line nipple location.

'73 and '74 are NOT the same...... the '74 has a big hump in the top for the evap/vent system.  You can put a '73 into a '74 with a little plumbing work, but you can't put a '74 into a '73 without modifying the trunk floor.

I was not aware of the hump in the 74 tank.  But here is the difference between 71/early 72 to late72/73.  Notice the vent hole locations.

74 tank

Is that the tank your bringing to Carlisle for me? :D
It's crazy money for one like that and for almost half the price I can get a 73 tank.

If you can find a 75 tank from a Fury, RR, Cordoba or Charger they will work in your 74.

The bump in the top was part of the emissions system vapor separator.

I'm fast becoming a mid 70's emissions geek.

The tanks are actually available and reasonable (250-300 new).

Head to Ebay, pay and relax.

Yeah, they seem to have that covered too as far as new.  I just looked at Gastanks.com.  $459!!  (CR21A)

That is crazy   :brickwall:

I can score a 73 tank at Carlisle for around 150-171. I can plug 3 of the nipples and add my vent line to one or plug them all and get a vented gas cap. I don't have emissions or state inspection on my car since I have permanent classic plates.
See ya there Bob.

Nacho-RT74

I got mine at Carlisle 2008 in $225-250... can't recall... from Kramer. Yes, 6 years ago, but on those days, they were listed on $400 too

They still can be found on $290 or so I think...

Got my 73 tank at Carlisle for 140 bucks.

ramairthree

Yes, the '74 has the Hump and cost a good bit more.

I put one in mine, the JB weld patch just was not going to cut it forever on the leak in the original one.

At least they make them,
I had to use a different tank in a /71 Javelin because nobody makes one for that anymore.

I am resurrecting this topic regard the filler tube.
I have a good one, they sell gromments,
but my attachment is a little more wobbly than I had expected.  Any hints on firming things up there?
Thank you.

ODZKing

When you say attachment, how do you mean.  There should be a bracket that straps (so to speak) to the tube then bolts to the back of the body to hold it in place.
Here is a pic of one I sold recently.

64dartgt

Man I need one of those brackets too if you have one available!

ramairthree

Yes, I have the strap around my tube but not the bracket.  I am just ziptied with no bracket.
