PPG Paints:  DBC vs DBI

PPG spec sheet states that DBI is primarily for Interior and engine compartments and matches the external colors provided by DBC base coat.

The local paint store told me that DBI is the exact paint as the DBC base coat.  They just don't apply the clear coat over it.

Can you just use the base coat for the interior and engine bay without the clear??

I would not recommend painting engine compartment with no clear. Clear adds protection & durability & UV sun protection. Some Interior paints will have a flatting agent or flexible additive. You can clear interior parts with a flat clear such as Flex in Flat if I remember right. LEON.

This sounds like it has the potential to be some misguided information. The colors match, okay. Ask yourself if it makes sense for a paint company to develop the same product twice. No, they would not. They were developed for different applications.

:brickwall: Too much misinformation in the body and paint world.

DBU with DRR reactive reducer can be left uncleared but it will be very flat. DBC without clear on it can be removed with brake cleaner. It need ths clear to be protected and sealed. If you are looking for semi or satin finish experiment with clear flattener.
