Is this caliper a passenger-side or a driver-side caliper..?
It´s for a ´72 Charger SE

Se pic:

If I remember correctly, the calipers were different for a right and left.  They might have a R or a L cast into the caliper but I might be wrong.

the easier way to notice any kind of caliper position and side is the bleeder must be on top. Piston toward inside the car.

The red plug is the hose in what If I remember correctly is on the same side bleeder, so if I'm right that's the Driver side ( L )

on Mopars Odd numbers are left side ( driver ) and even numbers are right side ( passenger )

Here´s the reason i´m asking..
On the drivers side the brake hose knocks the lower contol arm (where the shock is mounted) when i turn fully right..
Don´t think the previous owner installed the right caliper.. se pic..

Soo I came across this new caliper and wonder if this is the right application..?

Here a pic of my drivers side (L):

Nacho-RT74

the first caliper you posted is 73/74 single piston floating kind... mine has that one if I'm right.

as far I know 71/72 is double piston and is fixed...is a little bit thin... maybe that's the reason. ???

One thing is true... that caliper is upsided down, or wrong sided... bleeder must be on top.

In my 74, hose comes from front of wheel

If you say that's driver side... I THINK there is something else wrong... pic is front view... right ?

In my car, caliper is toward to rear...

Am I looking at the pic wrong or does the hose go under the lower control arm then back up and around?  If that is the case, can't you just remove the caliper and move it around and under the lower control arm so the hose can clear it?

Also as stated before, the bleeder screw should be on top or the highest point so the air can get bled out.  If the bleeder screw is on the bottom, you will never get all of the air out, only brake fluid.

Hmm.. anyone have any pics of their own brakes..? That would really help a lot..

Yes.. the 2nd pic is front view..
This is what my passenger-side caliper looks like: http://www.saab4fun.com/upload/uppladd/24192Vans.jpg

So if the bleeder should be up.. then i think the 1st pic caliper only fits the pas-side (right).. right..?

Nacho-RT74

being a 73/74 caliper, first pic it looks be driver side. Hose In matches with bleeder side... and  is toward to rear... of course I'm talking about 73/74 assembly good assemblied.

If 1st pic caliper is toward to front like your assembly is, then would it be passenger side

Are 71/72 calipers toward to front ?

definitelly both of your calipers look different.

T16,

Your first picture is a passenger side, front mount caliper which is the same as the one on your car already. The caliper on your drivers side is a an early version of a rear mounted caliper. I've only run across them a couple of times ever, but they were a transitional caliper from the front to rear mount, but certainly not designed to be front mounted.

You should replace it (and it's brake hose) with the correct unit before you end up with failed brakes.

Thank you very much.. i will talk to the shop that i got the caliper from.. the messed it all up.   >:(
I´ve noticed that the new caliper was the same as my rightside caliper..

The car hasn´t been running for a couple of year.. it came to Sweden from California last year..
Maybe the drove the car "over there" with this faulty application..?

Again.. Thanks..  You just solved my problem  :icon_smile_big:

Nacho-RT74

I don't remember how is exactly mine LOL... and I REBUILT AND ASSEMBLIED IT BY MYSELF LOL... but is a fact mine is towar to rear...

will go down and check my car because right now I think my caliper is the same you have mounted on lef side :P

and definitelly, yes... the new one posted on first pic is the same you have already on your car on right side

T16,

If I remember correctly, the two different types of calipers were the same part number, so whoever ordered it can't really be blamed for the mix up, BUT whoever installed it should have his hands cut off. He knew this was wrong, and potentially dangerous, but did it anyway!
