Whats a proper size for avatars?  (so I don't have make pics smaller until they fit by trial and error, it'd be nice to just do it once)

I wanna say 100x100 pixels is the size that fits in the box correctly.....

I just changed mine
I thought I would just give it a try and load a regular picture

The one I used was 155KB and 1280X960

And was surprised when it worked fine

Just went to my profile and went to

browsed and up loaded a picture
