XS29 Charger 500???

I have always been under the impression that all Charger 500's were XX cars.  Look at the one in this ad on Hemmings.  For some reason it will only let me capture one image.

Ad states "I can assure you this is a real Charger 500 as it has been authenticated by GTS and the Winged Warrior Club and both confirmed it as real and with known history."

Is this a conversion someone did or are there XS29 500's that I have never heard of?

The very early ones didn't always get the XX, they began as RT models and some slipped through with the XS in place.

There is a Daytona in Illinois that is not an XX.  I think it was a XP but I know it did not have an XX.  I think the owners name is Prince???

Lets see if I can clarify here. There are a handful of 500's that are XS on the dash. They are not early cars. They are not in a batch/group. They are randomly scattered throughout the run of cars. No rhyme or reason why some have the typo of XS on the dash still. Fender tags and broadcast sheets are a different story. They switch from XS and XX on certain days.

As far as Daytona's go. Yes there is a Daytona with a typo as well. Its a legit car as well.

This 500 has been for sale a few times recently. Its a nice car, but if I was plunking down $75k I'd wait for one restored to the factory color.

If you're referring to the pockets in this pic, My 68 has them and I don't think it has any trim package.

68 and 69 the door pockets were standard, for your 70 you had to get the higher SE trim level package for them appear.

The same seller had this car for sale for $57k in 2012. Now he wants $75k. Car has been B5 for more years than it was ever Y2. Has been painted blue since 70's.

Thanks guys, great info.  I did not know there wee non-XX 500's or Daytona(s).  It is a great looking car.

I agree but it is a beautiful car and looks to have been done well.  But I was browsing not buying.

I'm not sure that I fully understand you here.  Are you saying that there are a handful of 500's that have an XS typo on the dash vin plate but that those same cars would not have an XS (and presumably would have an XX) on the fender tag and broadcast sheets??

I haven't heard of that, only one being off.  It does have the A11 code but I'm sure Danny has the facts here.

I don't agree that the color change effects the value that much.  If I had a Y2 Daytona or 500 in need of paint, I would go with color offered in 69 and it would not be the original Y2.  I do not care for Y2.  I don't understand why I need to go through the expense of painting my car a color a don't like?  :Twocents:  I am kind of a purist so I would choose a hugh offered in 69 and honestle on the Charger it would probably be B5 with white trim.  I am a bit partial since my 68 was QQ1 with white trim and I miss that car :cheers:

Just take a Y2 and paint it QQ1 with white trim............  :2thumbs:

B5 is close enough to QQ1 and still offered in 69.  Do you know where I can get a Y2, 69 C500???

It defintely effects value. How much is debatable.

I am on the other end of the spectrum than you. When it comes to a restored car, painting it the correct color is one of the most important things to me, and I am quite sure that most people who are into restored, not restified (or whatever other term is used) feel the same way. For a restored car, even if the color is not the most popular to the general public, correct color is a critical factor. Y2 is a more rare a color on a 500 that B5, also making it interesting (especially to jaded folks like myself).

Painting this car the wrong color has taken all of these people out of the potential buying pool, and added how many simply because they dislike Y2 or love B5? My guess is that the color change has attracted fewer people than it has turned off. If the car was a modified hot rod, I think the color change would be much less a of game changer.
Again, this is a very nice car, and I think it's fine to paint a car any color someone chooses. I just don't think you can expect to sell it for top restored value to the same market of people as if it was painted correctly.

I respect your opinion but agree to disagree.  It can not effect the value any more than what it cost to return it to original.  That car needs no body work.  Even with under hood, jams and trunk it would cost less than 10k to return that car to Y2.   :Twocents:

Thanks tan top, I had not seen this.  Although the questions of progeny raised by that thread brings me back to my previous question.  Has anyone seen a 69 500 with XS on both the vin plate as well as the fender tag?
