Hello.  I was hoping someone has already used two electric motors to open and close the headlight doors.  I am building a clone bird and would love some help.  Was thinking about using two honda accord electric motors and mount them on the z brackets with heims joints to adjust.   I did try searching this on the site with no luck. ( I'm not that skilled at searcing).  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.  John :shruggy:

jason r. detailed this in the thread about his build. no idea what page it's on, but i  think there was also video to go with the details.

I am looking to replace the Superbird vacuum system and go to electric. I read this thread and breezed through some of the other threads that are linked (I need to spend more time - only on page 3 of one thread).

Anyone with updates such as different options (Porsche, Honda, etc.)? If anyone can supply a kit or part numbers? Maybe after a few years using a type, we can get a lessons learned or rating on a system?

Thank you.

I haven't got to prove mine out yet in the road world full time.  So far good though for what driving I've done.

I'm going to make my own using these....https://www.servocity.com/html/25_lbs__thrust_linear_actuator.html#.VVPiC_BHMwA

Hemi-R: Let me know how the linear actuators work out. I was going to use a pair of $25 stepper motor and course or double helix screw. But the mounting brackets would be time consuming (although I have a machine shop on call). The bolt in would save me on my labor (and the machine shop).

Also thought there may be an electric solenoid that would do this. Replace the old air actuator. Probably more cost.

Please keep the ideas coming!

Chargerspecialties got back to me. The Superbird fiberglass housings will weigh more than they are comfortable with. This leaves me researching:
Honda Prelude system,
Porsche,
linear electric actuators,
electric push pull solenoid.

Maybe that stock vacuum system isn't too bad after all  :o

In the beginning I had thought about using spring return pneumatic cylinder powered by a small 12v air pump. They have pumps for horns, times, and similar but the Porsche  motor fell into my lap for free so I used it.

12v linear actuators are so inexpensive and simple to wire, I can't believe more people don't use them. They have the strength to do the job and couldn't be easier to mount. The limit switches are built in and you can control them with a simple DPDT toggle switch. They're probably lighter than the vacuum pods as well.

Thanks. I will try the 12V actuators if nothing else comes along.

Steve,  Give me a shout.  I ended up going with a porshe 924 motor to work both headlights.  The setup is in my nose and works great.  It does take a little bit of elbo grease but the end result really works nice.  I have not road tested the car yet...but I don't see why it wouldn't work.  PM me or contact me at graybo@zoominternet.net and I'll send you pics and my phone number if you want to go this route.  I had a lot of help from the folks on this site    Good luck.  John
