Just 6T9 CHGR

Recently purchased an FBO ign setup.  It came with a plain black coil.
I like the look of a "lettered" coil so I weighed my options.....

Option one.....send the coil out to be professionally relettered for about $100 (actually this wouldnt work because the vendors are only licenced to reletter gennie Mopar coils)

Option two....try & reletter it myself on the cheap....

After searching the net for some dry transfer lettering (not an easy task)   I finally found a suitable item from Tower Hobbies

Using my friend's Frank Badalson/Roger Gibson professionally relettered coil as a refrence (note...original coils lettering was green...could not find a green dry transfer so white was the next best thing ;) )

These letter/number kits came in different sizes so I was able to match up the different fonts fairly close.
I was also able to "date code" the coil as well...

"169" stands for the 16th week of 1969.....my car was built 4/30/69 so it falls in the 120 day prior window....plus 169 just looks COOL ;)

I still have to shoot mine with some satin clear to protect the lettering.

Dang, that looks really nice. How about spraying the entire page with some light green paint, and then applying? Would that work?

The dry transfers dont work that way.....you cant spray the outside part of the lettering...only the back side is exposed.  You have to rub the protective sheet over the lettering to transfer it to the surface.

One coil relettering job for a tan cap...... :scratchchin:   DEAL!! :thumbs:

I can't believe your at the stage where you spend that much time with the letters on the coil!!!! :icon_smile_tongue:  i think you should get another car to restore!!!!! :o ;D lol, i think the letters look great, good job.  i wish i was at that stage, BTW, thanks, now all i see is my crappy worn off letter coil!!!!

Im at the stage where its fun to do these little things yourself instead of paying someone else 6X the amount to do it for you.
A little research and about 1 hour of my time is all it took.

I am done with rebuying new parts because this year they made a "better repro"

I am more into the function aspect over the form now a days.

Now if I can get rid of my crappy 7mm "correct" spark plug wires and get a nice set of HP 8mm's that "look" correct :scratchchin:  :thumbs:

Nope. I believe the tray was in the car when it was painted - at least that's what I figured out when I was researching mine.

Does the FBO require some type of special coil? I was just curious because you didn't use the later style Mopar coil that you had previously. At least I thought you had one of those before.

Ty, I think the coil is a higher voltage coil (50k) than the stock 40k one....I think its a Pertronix Flamethrower coil that he put his decal on.  It is matched to his ECU & ballast.  He states the ECU wont work to its fullest potential without the matching coil & ballast.....sales pitch?  We'll see  :drive:

Anyone spot the other "camo"?? ;)

Duh, I didn't even notice the 2nd picture.

The oil filter does look much more correct than the resto one I bought as the red and blue bars are thicker and placed differently so Troy should be the winner.

Ding ding ding!!

Yep....took a trusty $4.50 WIX filter and with some rattle can paint and the Mopar logo printed out on paper, cut out & stuck to the filter I now have a $16 "resto" Mopar filter ;)

Oh well.  I guess all of the ones I have really noticed were black.  Looks like one more thing I will have to add to my list.  Figures... I just had the battery out also to clean up the terminals and battery tray. :rotz:

Break out the red paint baby! ;)

Go to your auto body supply store & get a rattle can mixed up of your color in enamel....costs about $20...more than enough to do the battery tray and the braces........dont forget the braces!

The new repros are the "branded in" orig part # belts........I REFUSE to pay $28 for a belt :rotz:

So which one is correct? The ink stamped ones or are the stamped (branded) belts correct?  I have the branded type.  Knowing my luck, I need the ink stamped ones. ::)

Yes they say the Pertronix Flamethrower coil is matched to there ECU. They states there ECU wont work
to its fullest potential without the matching coil & ballast, We'll see....

Looks great Chris, did you consider using a MSD Blaster-2? I took the decal off of mine and painted the
red coil black, but I sure wish I could screen the lettering and numbers on it as you have, looks great  ;D
