I appreciate the post but there is something about a 4 door Charger that just kills it for me. It should have been called the Coronet since they made those in 2 and 4 doors. My opinion is probably narrow minded to some but they NEVER made a 4 door Charger...so why ruin the original Charger lineage?  Ford and GM got the Mustang and Camaro right with 2 doors. I just wish they could have done the Charger some justice as they did the Challenger.

I'm guessing they did it mainly to appeal to women, and men who are henpecked, though I don't see why they needed the "Charger" name. The Diplomat, Aries K, Intrepid, etc., all were big sellers without the Charger name.

Dad always bought 2-door hardtops or coupes. Sure, Mom complained, because she was the one that always had to lean forward / tilt her seat ahead to let us kids in and out of the back seat (we couldn't get in on Dad's side of the car; he'd tell us to go around to the other door), and my siblings grumbled about it from time to time, but why should Dad have cared about such minor inconveniences? He was in the driver's seat. Whenever the old "Why don't we get a 4-door?" crap came up, I always sided with Dad. I thought 4-doors looked corny too; after all, the General Lee wasn't a 4-door, and neither was KITT, nor Magnum, P.I.'s Ferarri 308, nor Starsky & Hutch's Torino, nor Smokey and the Bandit's Trans Am, nor "Christine", etc.

I have no qualms with 4 doors, as it seems more than a few here do. I have four children and for myself it's much easier to let them get out instead of having kids climbing over front seats and consoles (which is how I imagine most 2nd and 3rd consoles got busted.."come on Jimmy, not that way dammit!") without being patient enough to slide the front seat forward and mess with the shoulder belt to get out. I have a 2008 Crown Vic was a ex Sheriff car, I installed 4.10 gears put a Tremec TR3650 5 speed out of a 2004 Mach1 in it, It has long tube headers, x pipe, 40 series muffs, and to top it all off I stuffed a water to air intercooled Kenne Bell 2.2 blower on it. I can go do burnouts in it and everyone can sit back in uncramped comfort and enjoy the ride

One thing to remember and I have seen it here in Iowa.  The cops, just like regular drivers are disabling the center section LED's so it makes it harder to recognize from a distance...

I like the center section, if I had one I would try to see if I could add stop LED's on the portion surrounding the reverse lights.

Only the city cops have chargers around here. Seattle PD still uses the Crown Vic.  WSP still uses the C.V. but also have new impalas and older suburbans.....

Our local county police have phased out all the Vics for Chargers. All of them are white marked cars with brushguards and there is one unmarked in that copper color. I do think that they look really sharp in police form. The brushguard hides that fugly grille.lol. A majority of the State Police cars here have also gone to Chargers. A local state cop has a gray unmarked Charger that works pretty well at blending in. I will agree that the tail lights are a dead giveaway around here because there are very few new Chargers running around in the civilian form.

I will say that the local ones here in Oregon that are white doors with black fronts and backs do make sharp looking police cars.

That said, in all the times I've bought a new or used car, what they look like as a police car has never factored into the purchase...

There do seem to be more "SUVs" on the force around here now.  Back in the day, a suburban was a command vehicle, but now there are seemingly almost as many of those driving around as there are patrol cars.

Regarding the Coronet name, I've never liked that. It had no "pop" to it. Now if Dodge had chosen Magnum, Mirada or even revived the Dynasty name, I'd have felt better about the car. As an owner of a Classic Charger I do not hold any hatred toward the 4 door car but I would have felt better about it with a different name hung on it.

They Already Did the Magnum as a wagon, about the same time the brought back the charger

Now? Escapes, Highlanders, Camrys, and Prius.
