Rattlesnake vs. Our Cat - Show and Tell Time

Our cat loves killing lizards.  I sure wish he had a taste for gopher and mouse.  He doesn't exactly earn his keep.  :rotz:

So now he's in the cat hospital with a rattlesnake bite.  He killed the snake (I'm impressed :o) but he's unrecognizable due to the swelling - he ballooned from 10 pounds to about 25 pounds of swollen mess in just minutes.  He'll live.

Here's the rattler in a pickle jar - about 18 inches long, about an inch thick, just one little rattle.  Even the little ones can be bad ass, at least until he met our bad ass cat.

That's pretty impressive considering the younger rattlers' venom is more potent than older ones. :o  You have one lucky kitty :2thumbs:

This gives a new meaning to 9 lives.

Bad-azz cat and I hope he recovers soon!  My cats (2 of them) do not exactly earn their keep around here either but, they are wonderful pets!  They are, also, lizard catching and killing machines!

Wow that's crazy! Hope the cat gets threw it.............. The little ones are sometimes more nasty then the big ones. Where was the snake and cat at when the battle took place?

Wow, glad to hear he is going to make it, are you ging to call him Mongoose.

Yes, he'll make it. Red is his name.  We chose not to do the anti-venom method - it's $600.  I really like this cat but they do have 9 lives.  So the vet cleaned up his wounded leg and chest (the snake struck twice based on the 4 wounds and then Red clamped down on the head and kilt him).  I wasn't home at the time, my wife was, and she can be bad ass when called upon.  This all took place at our front door step, blood everywhere.  (We live on five acres in the mountains and wilderness is right out the front door.)

My wife grabbed the shovel we keep ever at the ready, pinned down the snake, pulled the cat's mouth of the rattler's head (Red is a born killer and would not release the snake).  Wifey determined the snake was dead, so she forced open Red's mouth.  Got him into the carrier and drove to town to the vet.  When she came home she pulled out the tape measure, and then threw the rattler into the jar with rubbing alcohol.

The cat comes home tomorrow with 4 holes in him and a bunch of medication.  He is missing lots of hair from getting the vet shave routine.  He will be hell to live with now as he tells the other cats his big snake story.  I hope he stays humble.  I'm going to kiss him.

Cook the snake up and give the cat a tasty meal.

Da Da Da dah da Da Top Cat!

What a tough little critter he is, quite impressive.
Was a bit surprised that the venom didn't bowl him though.

Glad we don't have snakes out here mate

Had trouble getting a pic.  Red will not let his bare belly be seen, but here's his naked leg anyway.

He's doing great, full recovery.  He's a happy guy, a real people cat, but you wouldn't know it from the sneer on his face.  He's quite self satisfied.
