i finally got around to getting the car out today. shes been down since november if i had to guess. i put in a crap load of stabil before i put it away for the winter.  so i got her runnin and i had to up the idle speed quite a bit to keep it running. then i noticed the a/f guage was pinned out lean so i backed off the 4 mixture screws till the a/f was good.  it idled fine after that. i drove one mile to the gas station and it died out right in front. i got her runnin and same thing i had to crank the idle speed to 2k and back out the screws quite a bit to get the proper a/f.

after a while of this i was able to turn down the idle screw.  then i topped the tank off it only took 5 gal of 93 octane.   on the approx 12-15 mile trip to my house i had to pull over and richen the screws again. any time i let off the gas the a/f would peg lean and it was popping pretty bad out the exhaust aswell. it ran fine on the highway after that but thats about the only place it ran good.

its a new fully rebuilt motor. i did it last year and the carb is a proform 750 dp race series.  im assuming its gummed up or something. any suggestions on what to do here?  i dont know about the air bleeds and stuff like that. the floats are set up right. should i just take off the fuel blows and blow out the jets or is it more involved than that?

HANDM

Had the exact same trouble with the Cuda. The float bowls had massive amounts of build up..... a little scooping and spraying carb cleaner and its running like it did when the carb was new....

Did you use the stabil just for ethanol gas? I like to use either Startron or Lucas oil ethanol stabilizer.

Ya I would pull the carb and clean it out before driving again, sounds like plugged circuits in there.

This hobby is more than just our cars, it's the people you get to meet along the way!!!

I'm gonna say it was the Stabil that gunked up the carb.  Have heard horror stories about the stuff.
Been burning E10 for 20 years, never used any stabilizer and car always runs like a champ after winter storage.

i never run the stabil stuff normally. since this was a new motor i thought id put in the extra effort and it looks like it screwed me.  ive been reading about startron so im going to try that before i tear it apart.

I think you should still tear it apart and clean it up, it could have clogged some of the passages and jets :2thumbs:
