Is China now the only source or does someone in the US still make them?

How much brighter, or how much hotter does a 1156 get over a 1095. I run 1156, and the inner taillights ('69 model) are noticeably brighter than the other lights. I sort of like it, that it makes it brighter, more visible at night, but should there be any concerns for the bulb getting too hot, and possibly causing damage to the taillight lens? Has that happened to anyone? It's something I have thought about.

I haven't heard of that but I suppose it could be possible.  My biggest concern is the appearance, I'm the opposite of you in that I prefer the look with the duller bulb in there so all three have the same level when used as running lights.

The 1156 is brake light brightness; it is like the 1157s that are in your other tail light sockets, except it only has the bright (brake light) filament instead of having both the dim (parking/running light) filament and the bright brake light filament. It won't damage your tail light lenses, but it will look like 2 out of 6 of your brake lights are constantly stuck on when driving with your lights on.

One thing you can do if you want to run a more readily available bulb than a 1095 is to replace those two sockets with 1157 sockets, and only wire up the dim filament contact.

That's sort of what I was planning on doing with my 68 I am converting to look like a 69. I have to modify the rear harness anyways, and I have some extra 1157 sockets/wiring that I cut off an old harness a few years ago. I plan on using 1157's all the way across on it, but will probably leave the 69 the way it is.
