Design of the so-called new dodge charger

I don't like the new dodge charger and I never did ever since they decided to bring it back in 2006. That's just my personal preference and I don't mean to put down anyone that has one. I mean its not a bad looking or performing car Its just for me I have always been a hardcore Mopar guy and for a long time no one could ever convince me that there was any car in the world better than a Mopar. These days my Mopar faith isn't as strong as it used to be. My favorite cars on this planet are the second generation Chargers. So when I heard that they were bringing the Charger name back into production I was actually excited until I learned that it was going to be a 4 door car. Look, there has been a lot of hashing back a forth about Chrysler's decision to make the Charger a 4 door car. Some people like it and some don't. I don't and I wrote a 4 page letter to Chrysler and Mr. Burke Brown asking them not to make it a 4 door because since 1966 when the first Charger came out its has always been a 2 door sedan and it should have remained a 2 door car. After 1974 the Charger really started going downhill and they were just slapping the Charger's name on anything that rolled off the assembly line trying to revive the old magic but it wasn't working, so the decided to lay the Chargers name to rest. Then they decided to bring the Charger back and make it a four door. The point here is such that the name Charger is so iconic to Chrysler. and when you think of Charger you think of one of the meanest cars to ever come from Dodge and the best that Chrysler could do was make it a four door? Can anyone out there envision a 4 door Mustang? or a 4 door Camaro? That would be an automotive crime to do such a thing and you will NEVER see that because the Ford and Chevy guys know better than to toy with their most iconic cars. Love them or hate then you have to respect Ford and Chevy and one thing you wont get from them is a four door version of one of their muscle cars. If the guys at Mopar had any common sense then they would have given themselves a history lesson. OK, you want a four door performance sedan? Why not Coronet? This so-called new charger could have been easily called a Coronet R/T and it would have been perfect as a four door and the Charger name could have been preserved for something much more special. Mopar had a chance to really do something special but instead they really missed the mark in my book and could have done a much better job. The Challenger came out relatively quickly after this 4 door charger and in my opinion Mopar did it to shut everyone the hell up and make them forget about the charger. I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins 6 speed. A 2001 Dodge Ram Van 1500. 2 1969 Dodge Chargers both factory 4 speed cars, and a 1972 Plymouth Roadrunner. Ill still always love Mopar but, I know there are lots of other great cars out there too from Ford Chevy and Foreign as well.

myk

And, not that we haven't discussed/argued/battled about this since 2005, but I'll say it yet again: the Charger is NOT iconic to the people that control Chrysler; hasn't been since the 70's.  The people that developed the 300/Charger knew that there was some momentum to be gained by the history behind the names but THAT'S IT.  These people don't care about a small, yes SMALL and insignificant group of people like us that are upset that a multi-billion dollar, global company didn't make a Charger the way WE wanted it.  I'll say it again, classic Chargers and their rabid, stubborn owners don't mean a lick of spit to the people that now control Chrysler.

I'll tell what does matter to Chyrsler though, it's that the 300/Charger is a sales success.  They're in rental fleets, police fleets, taxi fleets and in the driveways of millions of Americans across the country as well as other buyers around the world, all of which don't give a damn about OUR classic Chargers or our fanatic loyalty to these archaic machines.  In summary, don't focus on this stuff, just keep your attention focused on the things that matter to us, the things that we can mostly control, which is our vintage machinery and the loyal community that appreciates these cars for what they are: unforgettable pieces of automotive history and greatness.  The rest of the world can fumble about with their misguided attempts at stealing the history that our cars have establshed; I really don't care what THEY do anymore than they do about us, because I've got mine and that's all that matters to me...

Real Chargers were hardtops, not sedans.

The Coronet name should also be preserved for something better. The new "Chargers" are ugly as homemade shoes. They look like a deformed Durango. Call it a St. Regis II. That name has nothing to lose.

I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

I've never understood the hate for these Chargers, I have always liked them, especially since the redesign in 2011. If I was buying a new car tomorrow, I'd take a Charger over the Challenger (even though the Challenger is a good looking car).

I saw an SRT8 Charger the other day I liked. Perhaps the first "new" Charger I've liked, ever  :Twocents:

Only one reasonable solution. :smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol: I use the word reasonably very loosely.

Spot on Jason !I have had both(well, still have the Charger,2013 R/T Road and Track model). My Chally was an 09 R/T 6 speed, was a great car,but like the Charger a lot better.
We have all the basis covered,2000 Durango R/T,2003 Caravan,2004 QC Ram,and were in the market for a nice sedan. What better than to ad some fun in the mix with an R/T Charger. Now always seeing the hate threads about the Charger, what if I bought a Taurus,or a Malibu,Regal, etc. At least I'm keeping my purchase American, and hello.....in the Mopar family,so get slammed anyway ?????
And as another reply came up,go drive one, your opinion would probably change.Normally I wouldn't respond to crap threads like this, don't care enough about what people think.If/when I don't like what people buy or do to their car,I simply don't respond at all.

Sad......It's not hate, it's opinion and nothing else. Sad to so many claim 'American', when they are buying a car that is mostly designed by Mercedes, owned by Italians, and most likely(as with my 'American' 99 Ram) built in Mexico.

Responding with the name calling of those who call a spade a spade is beneath you.
normally, most like to say they stay away from 'crap threads' like this, but amazingly, as with you, they cannot help themselves, and reply anyway????

What's duration @.050 mean?
What's the correct way to install U-joints?
What's the first thing one should do when scanning their 2014 Charger and gets a lean bank 1, sensor 1 code??

Yep, I can understand the lurking.

In the 3 years you've been here and spewed your crap, you finally came up with something I can agree with.

When I sold my house in Texas, I left one of these in the driveway with a signed title and the keys in the ignition. I couldn't give that damn thing away.

I like them.

How long will it take before this once again gets out of hand for the mods to lock this repetitive, controversial, argumentative drivel?  :scratchchin:   :horse:

I didn't say I didn't like the car, it's just not worthy of the Charger name plate.

another topic for another thread, but too many times we see customers come in with O2 sensors in hand cause that trusty putz at the auto parts store said O2 code? Must be an O2 bad, and we just happen to have fifteen in stock.

OK, the 2006 Charger was a good looking car. Far as it being a Charger, only thing they did right was how the spelt Charger! While I never loved the idea of a 4 Door the prototype before Ben's bought Chrysler you could see some of the lines of a 2 gen Charger!

New version?  :scratchchin: Way better, it finally has some of the trade mark 2 Gen Charger lines! It is a Charger to me?  :shruggy: No.

It is about as much as a Charger as a Omi is a Charger or a Volare is a Road Runner! I bought my daughter a Volare Road Runner with all the trim and a 360. Good looking car, but never a true Road Runner like my 68!

If I was in the market for a 4 Door Car?  :scratchchin: Maybe.  :shruggy: But, more than likely another Town Car if they still offer the 4.6 engine.

Far as 2 Door cars, New Challenger with the nastiest Hemi I could buy!  :2thumbs: If I had money out the bumper, get a newer Mustang as well. 4 Door Charger will never be on my shopping list unless I find a Steal I could not pass up!  :D

Boy this  :horse: should be tender by now, lets light up the grills! Real Chargers are dead, may they rust in peace.

Nostalgia aside there is no real arguing that the LX platform and the new Charger is a home run for a company that has struggled in recent history. I see them everywhere.
