When Is An Oil Filter No Good

I mean, do they go bad with age? 
I was going through some old crap in the garage and I found and old Lee LF-16 oil filter.  My best guess is it was from my dads garage when we cleaned it out.  And I would say from the late 70's for either my old Charger (318) or his Monaco (400). I cross referenced it and it will work on either.
Still in the package although it's a bit beat up, the filter looks to be fine out side.
From what I read it is synthetic fibers and pleats etc.
Do they go bad?  Is there stuff in them that dries up and flakes away?

Being that old most filters have a paper/fiber filter element, I would not run it as I am sure it will turn to dust and plug up the oil passages.

Yeah I'd relegate that old filter to man-cave decoration only...

Yep, thought as much.  I considered it for about ... a half second then said I don't need that problem..

My only concern would be the rubber in the gasket and drainback valve. Even under the best storage conditions rubber will harden/shrink with age.

Well even if it were a MobilOne I'm sure it's 30 years old at least. I agree, not worth finding out.
