Been gone for what seems like forever.  It was an incredible road trip all over southern Utah.  All the glorious red rock and canyon country, totaled over 2000 miles.  I have tons of pics to post.  And will eventually (the good ones).

We tripped around in our 2014 RAM 1500, with the Hemi and 8 speed. http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,109566.msg1344193/topicseen.html#msg1344193

Fully loaded, and I mean we really packed that truck with camping supplies, no towing though, and covered many mountains passes, long climbs from 5000 feet elevation to 11,000 feet, and 4 wheeled a lot at 8000-9000 foot backroads.  Saw very few towns, but did get stuck in traffic in Cedar City and St. George.

Overall mileage was 19.5 mpg, the lowest tank was 15, the best was 21.2.  That is actually measurement, not the digital read out on the dash.  The digital read out was always 5 to 10% higher.  The best tank that was real world 21.2 mpg showed 23.5 on the gauge.  The overall 2100 miles was at 19.5 but the gauge reads 21.4 so overstated by 9%.

The miles were a mix of highway at 55 to 75 mph, but several hundred miles were at 35-45, and several hundred were crawling along in 4 wheel, back country, at 5-10 mph.

So if I had tried harder I'm sure I could have seen an overall 20 mpg or better.  I am very pleased with combined 19.5.  On straight roads, in Nevada, at an even pace of 65, the gauge reads 25-26 mpg, so real world would be 23 mpg at best.

Sound like fun trip. Great gas mileage for HEMI Ram, always thought they were gas hogs, I guess not the new ones with 8spd tranny.

Actually the Hemi runs quite efficiently in comparison to the Magnum engine. On my Ram at 70mph I will be lucky to get 15 mpg and at 55 mph I will run about 19 mpg. While my Magnum RT is not as large, still weighs in at 4000 lbs, the MDS/ fuel saving technology (engine runs on 4 cyls at cruise) allows me to get about 22 mpg at 75 mph and 25-27 mpg at 55 mph. So decent mileage 68X426 and like the others would love to see some more pics from your trip.

I would believe the digital readout considering the truck knows exactly how much it's spraying in fuel at a specific RPM, Fuel Pressure, and MAP reading right down to the millisecond of run time, over a gas pump that reads to the 1/10th of a gallon.

Just sayin!

The Lie-O-Meters are extremely accurate over a gas pump these days.
JUNKTRAVELER: all I've seen in this thread is a bunch of bullies and 3 guys that actually give a crap.
