Got busted speeding in the dart

I remember back in my young and stupid stage (you know the period when you skateboarded and rode a bike without a helmet) I got into a three way race on the freeway outside of Palm Springs with a Ferrari, a Corvette and myself in my Plymouth Superbird.  We were all about neck to neck when I looked down to see my speedometer pointing well pass the North side of 100mph.  My mind immediately started to think about the "what-if's"....what is a tire blows, or a suspension part or even the engine decides to fail at that moment.  Then of course there was always the nice guy in the black and white, just waiting down the road to take a closer look at my car.....needless to say, I backed off and just watched the Ferrari and Corvette taillights grow smaller in the distance.   Yes, we all do dumb things as youths, but hopefully we survive and learn from these experiences.  As adults we should know better.
I drove an 18-wheeler for a year and it really amazed me the truly dumb things people do around big trucks.  You are playing near a vehicle that weighs upwards of 80,000 pounds.  You don't need to be a Physics major to know that it takes a bit of distance to stop all that weigh.  (Just look at how long it takes to stop a train).  18 sets of brakes doesn't make you stop faster when you have a lot of weigh you are trying to show down.  Yes, some "professional" truck drivers are not all that professional in how they drive such as passing another truck climbing a hill and backing up traffic for miles.  But, unless it's a matter of life and death to get somewhere....why turn your actions into a life and death situation?

Who cares if his car can do that kind of speed?

Dumbass move,   :badidea: should have been charged to the max!

Even dumber for bragging about it!

(maybe he meant 144kms/hr.... :D)

I wasn't aware that the site had been taken over by Aunt Bea's knitting club... :eyes:

Yes, driving really fast is dangerous AND young male humans do dumb things. Not exactly breaking news. Arguing about just how dangerous and dumb is silliness on a whole new level.

In my experience (over 60 speeding tickets worth), cops rarely give tickets for the actual recorded speed when you're significantly over the limit. Pay the fine and be happy - it's a gift! Don't count on being lucky every time. It would be fun to argue this one in court as I have my doubts about the accuracy of the equipment. With time and effort you could likely get it thrown out (or jailed for an extended period of time). Last time I got busted in the triple digits it cost me about $2,000. Heck, the bare minimum speeding ticket around here will set you back $175 these days.

I may not be a real physicist but I know a box shaped Dart ain't generating 3,300 pounds (give or take) of lift - at any speed that it will actually travel on flat ground. I have math and I'm not afraid to use it! Can you "get loose" and get whacked by another of the laws of physics? Yep!

Lastly, here's the obligatory "don't post anything on the internet that you may regret at some point" warning. It's amazing what employers and the government(s) are tracking these days. And nothing ever gets "deleted".

Wait, NOTHING??!!  Damn, my ex's lawyer is for sure going to find that other crap then. :brickwall: :RantExplode:

Funny you mention that as most of the requests I get for removing stuff from the site stem from divorce cases. Sadly, this site gets cached by Google and a slew of other places within minutes/hours and there's nothing I can do about that. Good lawyers have whole teams to search the internet (not just social networking either).

Can't you see what he has done wrong here.....dude is a reckless a--hole...
gotta pass some trucks, pffft

Ghoste

You had actually told me that before Troy, amazing isn't it.  For my own case, there's nothing here of any use.

I live off a busy road and my garage is on another. On Saturday alone I watched five separate cars jam on the brakes and swerve across multiple lanes of traffic to turn into whatever shopping center or fast food joint grabbed their interest. Sometimes they didn't even turn in. Just needed a new lane I guess. Every day I watch people pull into an intersection when traffic is stopped so they don't have to wait on the light (blocking all other traffic when the light changes). It's nothing special to be a "reckless a--hole". The world is full of them. If I had to point out every one I'd have no time for anything else.

A highway, with a pass lane....doing 232 in a 100k zone (or 144mph in a 60mph zone)....Ever been that stupid?

Jerk should have had the car impounded, lost his licence!

But,,,the Cop was a Dart fan, so forgave him, haha....okay

Drache

Should've had a worse punishment. Didn't. Posted this humbly not bragging. One mistake that I learned my lesson from.

But keep on whining Ram07 you're starting to sound like an old maid  ::)

He clocked me at (144mph) so he said.

"So he said".   8 truck lengths doesn't sounds like enough distance to get up to 140, even if your car could.    You'd need some pretty tall gears and a lot of time.     Yes, I believe you were moving.   No one got hurt.   But if I did something that dumb, I probably wouldn't be posting about it, unless I wanted the attention.

Luckily most of our speed limits are higher than that. ;) Canadians could build a perfectly straight, 8 lane superhighway and set the limit to 50 mph. :D

I don't know what you're mad about. If the story is real and he didn't get punished severely enough or that the story is fake because he didn't get punished enough. My whole point was that this thread is pointless so I really have no intentions of getting drug into it.

Id  much rather sound like an old Maid, than some idiot that tries to say he's driving a Dart at 232k in a 100k zone.

Why post yourself as being a fool?

You are an idiot! An unsafe driver!

yes, i have....
and the only person that would have been hurt, is me...

i was not being stupid on a public highway

TUFCAT

I've always been a fan of ACCELERATION.

I can't recall the need to drive that fast - anywhere...ever!

I have very little, if any real interest in high-speed antics.

I could care less if my car goes over 100MPH, as long as I can beat the other guy in a quarter mile.  :icon_smile_tongue:

If I can't beat the other guy on a quarter mile race track, who really cares "how fast" my car can go?

I never had a street race that it became necessary to travel anywhere past 70-80 mph....(I don't think)....besides, if I couldn't pull away before 70mph, I was already losing!

Ram07

Seems he needs attention, faster you go, bigger the balls get, i guess  ::)

Considering that he was passing going uphill, I don't see the speed as the problem.  A person wants to make those type of passes as quick as possible. :yesnod:  You never know what surprises may be on the other side of the hill. :o
