470" Stroker - Edelbrock / Mopar Performance aluminum head questions

I'm in the process of picking parts for my new engine (400 stroked to 470" using a 440 Source Kit) and have some concerns with the Edelbrock RPM Heads, part # EDL-60929.  When looking at the Summit site the following info is posted for these heads.

EDL-60929
Notes:These heads require adjustable rocker arms and a minimum of a 2.0 in. header tube. A smaller tube has a smaller radius and will not clear the spark plugs. Vacuum advance distributor may not clear cylinder head.

The other set of heads they offer, EDL-60925, do not have these notes attached with them.  Is there a difference in the actual head?  I wouldn't think so.  I see the difference in spring, but that's it.  Probably just an oversite.

I planned to run 1 7/8" TTI headers and adjustable rockers, but not sure now.  Also, is anyone having issues with distributor clearance?  I see there are Mopar Perfomance aluminum heads available.  Do these have the same issues?
Thanks,
Scott

See what others say, but I think you will be OK with the TTI headers.  I do not know about the dizzy.  I think some have ground them a little to make that fit.  I did not look at mine.  I have 1 7/8 hooker competition headers that I needed to dent to make the spark plugs work.  I have an MSD billet distributor, but I did not do the install myself.  I did fit the heads in with the factory vacuum advance distributor.

Mine is a 383, so same low block.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

I have the 60929 heads on a 440 with 1 7/8" hookers - few dings required here and there for plug clearence on passengers side and a ding for power steer on drivers side. I understand the TTI's of the same size don't have any issues. I run a MSD pro billet and factory covers, no clearance issues at all.

Off track a bit but with the 470 - which would be best and why - a 6.7 rod with a 1.320 piston or a 6.535 rod with a 1.485 piston?

The 17/8 primary diameter TTI's fit great with an angled plug head (RPM/Indy EZ)....and there are zero issues with distributor clearance using a factory dimension distributor. I've sold several lowdeck Firecore Distributors to guys running the RPM heads and had no complaints. I used to run the RPM heads on my old 446 and never had issues either.  :shruggy:

The only way the vacuum cannister could potentially cause problems would be if the distributor wasn't indexed properly during installation. The same issue would exist using a stock cylinder head.  :yesnod:

The 2in header comment is mostly for power potential....but the reality is that a 17/8 in tube will make as much HP and better TQ than a 2in header unless the engine is an all-out race effort build. I have the dyno sheets to prove it  ;)

A stock rocker arm setup will also work but most guys step up to a larger cam so the adjustable rockers become a necessity anyway.

The Mopar Performance aluminum "452" head has straight plugs.  From what I've read same they are the same castings as the Eddy's only with straight plugs.

Thanks for all the feedback.  Think I'll go with my original plan and get the Edelbrock RPM's and TTI 1 7/8 headers.  As far as justcruisin's question, that would be better answered by someone else.

Thanks,
Scott

Good choice, I think TTI do a different header for the B and RB.
