Just found out Ive had the wrong bulbs in my console courtesy lights, which have been blowing fuses. I need the correct bulbs for the console lights and will be hitting up the parts store today. Anyone know what number they are or can I expect for there to be some sort of book there like the old days where I can look it up?

? Huh , why put stock globes in , LED's  brighter , less heat, won't yellow the new lenses you put in console, last for ever

timmycharger

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I may go the LED route, does makes sense, for now I just want to solve my problem

:shruggy: Ok, now Im a bit confused. I did a search on the 89 bulbs and they show it having only one contact on the bottom. The pigtails for the console lights have two contacts, one for pink and other for yellow Im assuming, wouldnt I need a bulb with 2 contacts?

Dino

One contact is correct.  The pink wire is power feed while the yellow runs to the door switch.   :2thumbs:

89 is wrong...you want a #90 bulb that has one filament and 2 contacts. If you put a single contact bulb in, it will blow the fuse every time.

the other double contact bulb is #1004, but those will burn the lens because they are longer, #90 will not brown the lens.

Whatever source says #89 bulb to use is wrong

Dino

Bryan I do recall you said this before.  I never had an issue with mine and am running 89.  Would you happen to know why it needs a double contact?  Nothing wrong with using # 90 if it works!

console sockets have double contacts, much like tail light sockets. There will be a pink & yellow wire, pink is hot, yellow is ground to doors.

You cannot use a single contact bulb in there, it will short the contacts together and blow fuse. I bet you if you pull yours out, they are not "89's"

That is interesting Bryan. After reading this thread, I thought so as well.
So I went to the 69 service manual and it says #89.
I'm thinking to myself, did they change that in 2 years? Console socket is the same, is it not?
So I checked the part number in all 3 books. socket 2426141.    :shruggy:

this is strange. I was trying to track why I kept blowing the fuses, I triple checked my wiring, and its all good.  When I looked at the single contact bulb I was using, it looked like it grounded out/arc  as it had a shiny/burnt spot on it.  The interior bulb kit I bought said I needed the single contact bulb as well...

Im going to give it a go tonight and see what happens with the 90 bulbs. At this point it wont hurt anything. (except my wallet, Ive blown about 10 20 A fuses since last week)

A383Wing

he was asking about the console bulb...all were the same from 66 & up..my 70 uses #90 as well

timmycharger

Alrighty, just picked up some #90 bulbs and will be giving it a go tonight. Thanks for the help

Couldn't hurt to take a look in there either.  Is it a singe or dual filament socket?

Well they do look alike at first glance so I cannot say for sure what they are.  I need to remove the top plates for a future project so I'll find out!

 Thank you, that was definitely it, popped them into the console and no fuse blow and everything works. Much appreciated

Why does that stupid owner's manual/pamphlet say 89?

Ghoste

Printed in advance, old info, bad communication, typo who knows?  Happens every now and again.

ODZKing

67 Service manual says 90 ... I wonder why they changed the 69.  I don't have a 68 sm.

Somwhere on here is a thread that a fellow replaced his with LEDs and worked great, with pics.

A383Wing

are you guys sure you ain't looking at the map light bulb instead of console bulb?

Ghoste

A383Wing

OK..I just know that 89 is not correct for console bulbs....
