Does anyone have a tip on how to get the metal retainer to the switch off my original harness and onto the new set of lines?

TIA!
Dave

DAY CLONA

Metal retainer?.....elaborate please, as all I've seen is a rubber "manifold" block that pushes onto the white slider switch ports

Mike

Hard Charger

there is a metal clip that holds the rubber block onto the switch.

it splits apart. but don't split it to far apart you will stretch it out.

Its a metal bracket with 2 prongs you have to detach from vacuum switch

if its the same as a 68/69 charger ?  ...

the retainer slides off !

( A) with a suitable flat bladed screwdriver position it  between retainer spring clip (B)  and vacuum switch plastic retaining lug thingy  (C)! then ever so carfully /slightly twist screwdriver to disengage metal spring clip thingys (B)  one each side !!   then just pull off the whole vacuum connector & metal retainer as one bit ,   from the  switch  :yesnod:

to remove metal hose connector retainer  ,  (D)  it simply sides off , only one way though  , if its never been off may well be stuck , in which case insert a  suitable thin flat bladed screwdriver  (E) & carefully  tweak it to break the seal from the rubber  , then it will slide off ! see picture below

Thanks for the tips Tan Top!

Its all buttoned up in its new home.

It was sitting on the old harness on the workbench but I was seeing things as well as I should've. I didn't need to remove it from the headlight switch and manifold. I just cleaned it up a little and slid it off the old and onto the new before climbing under to attach.
