Typically production for the next model year starts in late summer, but this isn't always the case when introducing significant changes to the car.

I was talking to a guy who ordered his 68 Charger in July of 67, but he couldn't get the car until October. His fender tag shows the date as October 10th

So I was wondering, what's the earliest dated 68 anyone has seen?  Does anyone have a car with a fender tag earlier than October?

Wasn't the old site's "community project" car the earliest known '68 in existence?

Wow, there's some "institutional knowledge".

What was her/their name again, with the perfect pilot husband?  As I recall, she got steamed and split, never to be heard from again.  Like Jessie with my t-shirt money....

Shelley (Yellowcuda) and Jonathan (Eastcoastchargers).  I lost a nice chunk of change on both the car and the shirts.

705 & 710 would be late cars - July '68
There had to have been some pre-production "pilot" cars - I haven't heard of any that survived.
The "dealer introductory unit" '68 Charger R/Ts were "scheduled" Sunday 730, but were built closer to the middle of August - the earliest VIN I know of is XS29L8B100397.

Due to the success of the '68 Charger additional production was scheduled at the St. Louis assembly plant beginning on March 4, 1968.
The earliest '68 Charger I know of from St. Louis is XP29F8G197754.

You're right, of course. I will begin the self-flagellation now....

The "earliest" '68 tag I have is an Oct 9th 1967.

I guess the 7 confused me (it isn't all that hard).  Are these 2 of the very last 68's made?

That VIN doesn't work for 7/10/68, are you sure that's not the Shipping Order #?  Got pics of the tag?
