My 75 RR has a gurgle.

When I first start it up (cold) I can hear the water from the engine pushing, surging "Gurgling" through the heater core on the interior of the car.
This will happen for a few minutes and then go away.

The heat works great, but on my old 69 Charger I never heard a thing.

The radiator is full, the overfill bottle is full and I have no leaks.

After the car is warm, I don't hear any water swirling about---only happens when cold.

I'm not interested in taking anything apart or spending money, just curious as to why this is happening??

it's pretty much normal..it's the water rushing through the heater core, you probably got a bubble in there....some say raise the front end way up and run engine to burp it...other fixes have been to put a restrictor in the inlet hose to core to slow down the water

yep- my Ford Focus did the same thing. Definitely had no leaks or issues...drove me crazy and then it just went away one day. Or maybe I turned up the Megadeth a tad.   :icon_smile_big:

I am having the same sound in my old Town Car, had the heater core replaced last fall. There is air trapped in the system, need to get burped.

Have you ever tried to put a Charger to your shoulder to burp it?  If so you are a better man than I Gunga Din  :smilielol:.

I'm an aging fraternity boy so burping is second nature to me.

How best to burp? Should I remove the hoses from the firewall? Engine? the lttile gizmo inbetween that adjusts to keep the cold wate/warm water in or out?

myk

Elevate the front of the car to the point where the high point in the cooling system is where the air can escape, such as an open radiator, as the car is running.  I had to do that with my '97 Z28 as it refused to lose air in the cooling system otherwise, so I just jacked up the front end, ran the motor and burped the big red baby...

do not disconnect the hoses from firewall.....do you have a coolant shut off valve in line? Got a picture?

I'm sorry...I thought this thread was about something else.  Back to the car talk.  :whistling:

Newer cars are much easier to burp, They have a little bleeder screw on top of thermostate housing similar to those on wheel cyllinders to bleed air from the brakes. LEON.

Depending on where you live see if you can find a ditch that you can get in and out of.

they sell restricters to make that sound go away. little plastic push in ring. goes in one of the tubes. try napa.
