So I decided I would get all my hotwheels together and take some pictures so I could trade some for others. Went searching high and low and can't find half of them. I know they were in a box in my living room. Girlfriend mentioned that she wanted to clean my living room and threw out a couple boxes of what she thought was junk. Turns out one of the boxes had half my hotwheels collection in it. Go down to the dumpster and start digging. Can't find them (figure one of the dumpster divers much have found them) but I cut the very tip of my right index finger off on a knife someone threw out. Gone through three freaking bandages the bastard is bleeding so bad.  :brickwall:

If you had them out of the boxes, they weren't as valuable as they could have been.  Then again what guy buys a car toy and doesn't roll it around some?  I even unboxed my 1/18 scale cars i got for display, screw collector value.  Sucked when my little brother's kid managed to break off the mirror and bumper on one, but hey, it kept him happy for a few hours.  he later managed to break his collarbone running thru the house and falling on the floor, who knew a newly carpeted room with fresh pad was so dangerous.

Any girlfriend that tosses "junk" away without asking shouldn't be kept around long.  Those are the types that will tell you to sell a musclecar so you can buy an SUV because its more "kid friendly" when you don't even have kids yet.  My wife of 30 years won't toss anything unless its sat in the hall for a week first.

They were all in their packages. Werent all that valuable, just a long time collecting them and ones you can just go to walmart and find anymore.

:iagree:

2 or 3 little cars might be mistaken for junk, particularly if there are no kids in the house.

But a whole bunch of them, in unopened boxes, in the house of an obvious car fanatic . . . there's no mistaking that for junk.  She knew what she was doing.

myk

Keep her around, if you want.  But I would make her "pay" for her insolence; I'll let your imagination run with that one...

I have a ready made collection for sale. Posted on here. Around  175 cars. $2.00/car.

My brother took all my Hot Wheels/Matchbox cars, track, etc. years ago. This was all stuff from the 1970s, gone forever...

Anyways, I got him back, as I sold his Star Wars stash  :2thumbs:

X3  :yesnod:

I can't imagine anyone's wife/significant other throwing something like that away without some sort of prior discussion. Especially with no kids in the house.
Big difference to having your stuff "disappear" as a kid, though. Jeez, I wish I had all my Star Wars figures back, too.

My mom/family doesn't have the throw it away without asking problem. They always show up with stuff making sure. Problem is that I never could afford anything worth while.  It was junk and stayed junk, someone else got all the stuff that was junk and became valuable.

Anything i left at home when i moved out was fair game for my mom to toss.  My fault for leaving the baseball card collection, my younger brother sold them with his (someone gave him a huge collection of cards from the 20s-50s when he was a kid, he sold it for a hefty profit.  Mine was just from the 65-68 seasons.  They kept my hotwheel collections to let grandkids and visiting kids play with them, they weren't in very good condition anyway. (I was somewhat abusive with them).

I do feel sorry about your finger though, we've all done some major damage to our digits,  I once sliced all 8 fingers by leaning into the fan of a car once... blood everywhere.

Know that feeling.  Lot of my favorites went away when I wasn't watching.
