That filler panel gives it a clean/smooth look. Nice fab work :2thumbs:

Very fine...I've always been surprised the aftermarket hasn't cranked out a filler panel.

Nice job Pat!
Thanks for sharing. I may borrow this idea on my build.  :scratchchin:

Did you tack weld it on the edges in 6-8 spots?
Don

keepat

Don, I welded it all the way on both side then sanded down the weld flush on the out side only
Thank you!
Pat

So you welded it all along the entire perimeter front and back?
So if you ever need to remove the grill support you will have to destroy this piece right?
Maybe I am missing something?

Sorry Don, I was talking about the small piece of aluminum that goes around the hood latch.  The filler that I made from aluminum will be held in with 2 or possibly 4 fasteners so that it will be easily removed for access or any service service between the radiator and grill.
Thanks
Pat

That filler plate idea is really slick, nice work!

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

agreed!  It may even help with cooling while at speed.

Thanks, but once again I borrowed this idea from another charger owner I just can't remember who it was??
And yes I do believe it will help direct more airflow to the radiator.

Does anybody know what the two holes that my hairy gorilla arm is pointing at do or what options they may be for?
Thanks
Pat

White and Red probably.

That's where the release handle for the hood latch bolts to.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

keepat

Yes it was White and Red! Thank you

Those two holes were not used for my hood latch it was located towards the center closer to the latch itself.
Thanks

That's to lift the hood with the latch open, this one pops the lock.

Here's a few pictures I have of mine, ignore the bent rod. I can get you better pics if you want.

That must be a 69 thing with the Center Grill? 68 have that located in the center.
That does answer what those holes are used for, just not for a 68
Thanks
Pat

Ah I didn't think of that. My 68 has been gone for so long that I can't remember the difference in lock setups

Yes, 69 latch is offset.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Cool,  my plan is to weld over any unused holes but if I had a 69 I would have to weld over that big square hole in the middle.  Interesting that they had the holes there in preparation for a different grill or did they plan on having split  grill for the 68??
Thanks
Pat

Another amazing build here!  :popcrn:

I was thinking the filler was just getting OCD, but then I realize it is functional as it will aide cooling to the radiator.  Are you going to paint to match the car?

Leave the holes alone, your adding useless weight by welding them up!

Your car should be displayed at the Smithsonian!
