Ok, after all the welding, finishing, painting, sanding, buffing I sat back to admire my new paint job and realized I forgot to drill the hole for the antenna in the AMD fender.  I am not cutting the new pretty paint, so my question is does anyone sell a front windshield with the antenna in it like my 71 Buick?  If not I will have to make one or just invest in CD's.....

Thanks,
Jon

I think you are out of luck as far as finding a windshield with an antenna in it.

Mount antenna inside fender, top, lengthwise?

twodko

An antenna requires a ground plain, physical or electrical to function properly.
While mounting an antenna in a fender well as described or any where else in
a vehicle parallel to a metal surface would create an inductance effect
compromising the efficiency of the antenna.

The suggested antenna mounting ideas SecretAudio provides offer the
best radio reception for a.......hidden antenna.  :D

I truthfully like the look without the antenna. i hadn't decided if I was gonna do it or not so I waited and then forgot.... haha! I like the secret audio idea. I was also thinking of using adhesive on some wire like the windshield antennas. I still have a year before I drive it... Much to do! Thanks!

You bet! I'd call SecretAudio and just buy their antenna. The pigtail coming off the SST unit I
bought is a standard coax antenna connector. A SecretAudio antenna will work with your existing cable.  :Twocents:

Apply three layers of masking tape where the hole needs to be.  Make your X mark and center punch it.  Drill, remove tape, de-burr with small file, touch up with paint.  Let dry, install antenna.  Nothing to it.   :2thumbs:

What about maybe using a chassis punch? Clean edge cut, no heat from a holesaw or big drill to blister the paint, unlikely to distort the panel and the chrome bezel is large enough to cover any small chips right by the hole.  :Twocents:

Weirdly enough, my aerial still appears to have some  QQ1 paint still on the base of the stem after this long , so I've never sanded it off... I expect it must have had a touch up on that guard a long time ago

With fresh paint I'd leave well enough alone and buy a hidden antenna.  :Twocents:

The risk isn't worth the reward, besides I kinda like the look. Body color is silver and if you paint you know how difficult that is to match. Any seperation of paint/primer around the hole would just breed paint lift or rust. Hidden antenna definately! Its funny how someone mentioned never listening to the radio when driving. I am the same when I drive my Buicks. Wife likes tunes... Dont think she likes to hear me talk...... :-)
