I am looking for suggestions for a timing light with advance. It will be used on an electronic Chrysler igniton system. What have you bought? How do you like it? Where did you buy it and what did it cost?
Are there any available now a days that is made in the U.S.?
Thanks for the help.

I use my chrome Craftsman...
Used it since 1972.  On everything.
No advance in it, but that's what a throttle is for.   :Twocents:
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

I have 2 inductive t-lights here....both Craftsman...one has dial-back knob, the other does not. Snap-On makes a good digital t-light..but pricey.

All above have worked well on my Chrysler Electronic Ignition and the MSD Ignition I have in the cars

I have that Innova gun as well but it's all black.  I also run an MSD 6 but have no trouble with timing at all.  You can't go wrong with that light OP...

mines an old snap on. has the plain dial in the back. works good.

Timing lights with the dial dont work with capacitive discharge ignitions. Like MSD, or other brands that have multiple spark capability. You need a standard timing light to work with capacitive discharge ignitions. Just some FYI.

I just checked Summit's website and they have an entire category for dial back lights that work with MSD (multiple spark discharge) systems. That was not the case just a couple of years ago when I was looking for a new timing light. Technology has improved.

my Snap-On & Craftsman lights are well over 10 years old....technology improved long before a couple years ago

Dont know what to tell you. I owned one, the timing went nuts when the dial was moved off zero. Telling me I had up to 60° of timing, and inconsistent. Had to send the light back. Others in this thread concurred,

If you guys have been setting total timing with an MSD type ignition, using an older dial back type light, and believe the numbers?? I dont know what to tell you other than, better check your timing.

My Craftsman is 42 years old...  Works with single points, dual points, MSD, cap. discharge, no issues!    :Twocents:

I have exactly the same problem with my timing light. As soon as I try to dial in the advance, the timing light gets erratic or looses the timing.

And your timining light shows you the timing advance without getting erratic or even loosing the timing indication?

Strange, but this is exactly what mine does and I have exactly the same one as you. And MSD 6.

Nope, no problems at all.  Maybe my MSD6 isn't working properly?

The conclusion I came to, the timing light was counting the multiple discharges to the spark plug at one firing stroke, as aditional firing strokes. If that makes sense?

It makes more sense than why some of us have issues and some dont with the same lights.

I was thinking the same thing; hence why I thought maybe my MSD wasn't working or something.  In my mind the timing light "shouldn't" work on my MSD based system...
